To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN F. ZrMMnn, a

citizen of the United States, residing at New .York, in the county of New York and State lowing is a specification.

My invention relates to a transporting receptacle and it aims to provide an article of this nature which may be liftedwhile retaining its contents and which may also be lifted by a separate means so as to effect dispensation of its contents; to provide a re: ccptacle of this nature which may be emptied without the usual tilting operation; to provide a receptacle of this character having a gravity-opening bottom closure with a reeeptaclelifting and transporting handle connected thereto and with an additional lifting handle independent of the said closure so that in the event the receptacle is lifted by the last mentioned means, the closure will open and the contents of the receptacle will escape, and to provide a device of.

P Referring specifically to the drawings, wherein like reference characters! designate like or similar parts, a conventional receptacle is shown in the form of a pail which may be provided with one or more lifting 30 handles 5, and preferably two, being dis posed at diametrically opposite points and exteriorlyof the receptacle.

The major portionof the bottom of the receptacle is a closure member 6 adapted to swing downwardly from a pivot 7 and which is maintained in place by lugs 8 bent therearound and alternately provided on the closure and the remainder of the receptacle bot- 3 tom. The closure 6 preferably has an up Wardly extending flange at its marginal edge designated 9 which is overlapped by a flange 10 provided interiorly of the receptaclebody 4 adjacent the base. This construction will minimize danger of escapee-f thecontents of the receptacle, prematurely. Extending radially from the closure 6 at diametrically opposite points are pivot lugs 11 to which the terminal ends 12 of a U-shaped handle 13 straddling the receptacle are pivoted. These pivot members 11 when the closureis in closed position, are receivedin notches or cut out portions 14: extending inwardly from H the lower edge of the body 4." Guides 15 may be fastened to the pail body 4 on the exterior to cooperate with the arms of the handle 13. y

In use, as the receptacle is lifted by man sure6, through gravity,-will swing down and thus the contents may escape without ual engagement with the handle 5, the 010 p the usual tiltin action and as a result of Y mere raising. the contents should remain in the receptacle, it is lifted by means of the handle 13, which being connected to the closure 6, prevents descending swinging movement thereof. Also when thus used, the cooperating flanges 9 and lo prevent escape of the contents.

Since merely the preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted towithin the spiritand scope of appended claim. l i l I claim:
