To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that. I, JoHN F. OCONNQR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Yokes, of which the following is a full, clear, concise and exact description, reference being had to the ac-. companying drawings, forming a part of this specification. This invention relates to improvements in yokes. I
The object of the invention is to provide a yoke for draft riggings which may be readj in the novel combinations of the parts and devices, as herein shown, described or claimed.

The hoode end consists of an upper wall 17, side walls 18 and 18, the bottom being open at the front to receive the hinged block 19. The yoke at its forward end, on the inner side of the hood at the top thereof is provided with an in-.
tegral transversely extending shoulder or gib 20 adapted to engage the upper shoulder 11 of the draw-bar. The block 19 is pivotally connected as indicated at 21 to depending flanges 22 from the lower yoke arm 15, which flanges merge with the lower portions of the side walls 18-18. Said block 19 is provided at its forward end ith an upwardly extended shoulder or gib 23 which, when the blockis in operative position, en'- gages the lower shoulder 12 of the draw-bar.
' The hinged block is held in its operative position by any suitable means, such for instance, as' thebolt 24 which passes through suitable perforations in the side Walls 1818 and block 19. In order to relieve the strain on the pivot pin 21 and minimize the shearin action thereon, the lower arm 15 of the yo (e, at its forward end, is provided with a downwardly extending shoulder or gib 25 which engages a shoulder 26 formed on the block 19, said shoulders 25 and 26 being arcuate, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 4. As will be understood, pulling strains transmitted from the draw-bar to the block 19 Will be resisted by the shoulder 26 engaging with..the shoulder 25 of the yoke arm 15.
To further minimize the strains on the pivot pin 21, the forward end of the block 19 is curved as indicated at 27 and coiiperates with correspondingly curved shoulders 28--28 formed on the inner sides of the side walls 1818 whereby pressure is transmitted through the hinged block to these shoulders and .thus to the yoke proper.
To disconnect the draw-bar from the yoke, it is merely necessary to remove the bolt 24 and drop the hinged block, whereupon the draw-bar may be lowered sufi'icient for the upper shoulder 11 thereof to clear the shoul-e der 20, whereupon the draw-bar may be withdrawn forwardly. As will be observed, the draft gear is not disturbed or permitted to fall down and the yoke remamsin its usual position, thus minimizing the time and labor necessary to remove and replace a draw-bar.
Referring now to the construction shown in Figs. 5 to 8 inclusive, the yoke B is provided with upper and lower arms 11a and 115 and hooded forward end, the latter having top wall 117, side walls 118-118 and lower extensions or ears 30-30. The drawbar 110 is provided with the usual upper and lower shoulders 111 and 112 and engageable with the shoulder 111 is an integral end of the hinged block 119 is provided with a plurality of spaced, perforated ears 31. By this arrangement, the-hinge pin or rivet 121 is put in multiple shear, thus increasing its effective resistance under pulling strains.
The hinged block 119 is also provided with a gib or shoulder 123 at its forward end adapted to cooperate. with the draw-bar shoulder 112. The block 119 is held in. its operative position by any suitable means such as the removable bolt 124: which passes through a suitable perforation in said block and perforations in the ears 30-30, hereinbefore described. In the construction just described, as in the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 4: inclusive, the draw-bar may be readily disconnected from the yoke by merely removing the bolt 124 and dropping the draw-bar sufficiently for the shoulder 111 thereof to clear the shoulder 120. lln this construction also, the gear proper is not disturbed while the draw-bar is being applied or disconnected.
Although l have herein shown and de-' scribed what I now consider the preferable means of carrying out my invention, yet ll am aware that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts, without departing from the spirit of the invention and I contemplate all such changes and modifications as come within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
. ll claim:
1. As an article of manufacture, a yoke for railway draft riggings, said yoke comprising parallel arms rigidly connected at both the front and rear ends, the yoke being provided with a hood at the forward end to receive a draw bar butt, said yoke being provided within said hood .With a gib adapted to engage'one shoulder of a draw bar butt, said yoke being provided also with a block pivotally connected to the front end of one of said arms, said block having a shoulderarranged toengage the opposite shoulder of a draw bar butt, said block be engage the upper shoulder of a draw bar butt, a block pivotally connected to the lower arm of said yoke near the forward end thereof, said block and lower arm of the yoke having cooperating shoulders in operative engagement when the block is in operative position to thereby relieve the strain on the pivotal connection between said block and yoke arm under draft.
3. A yoke for draft gears comprising top and bottom members connected at their rear ends, means integral with said top and bottom members to prevent spreading thereof, an integral lug at the forward end of one of said members to receive draw bar stresses, an abutment at the forward end of the other member, and a member capable of swinging movement and provided with means to receive draw bar stresses and transfer them to said abutment.
4. A yoke for draft gears comprising top and bottom members connected at their rearward ends, means integral with said top and bottom members to prevent spreading of the top and bottom members,.an integral lug at the forward end of one of said members to receive draw bar stresses, an abutment-at the forward end of the other member, a member capable of swinging movement and provided with means to receive draw bar stresses and transferthem to said abutment, and means for retaining said last mentioned member in operative position.
5. A yoke for draft gears comprising top and bottom members connected at their rearward ends, means integral therewith to prevent spreading of the top and bottom members, said top member being provided with an integral lug to receive draw bar stresses, a member having a corresponding lug and capable of swinging movement toward and from the draw bar butt, an abutment on said bottom member, and means on said swinging member to transfer draw bar stresses to said abutment.
6. As an article of manufacture, a yoke for railway draft riggings, said yoke comprising parallel arms rigidly connected at both the front and'rear ends, the yoke being provided with a hood at the forward end to receive a draw bar butt, said yoke being provided within said hood with a gib adapted to engage oneshoulder of a draw bar butt, said yoke being provided also with a block having a fulcrum engagement with the front end of one of said arms, said block having a shoulder arranged to engage the opposite shoulder of a draw bar butt, said block being disengageable from the draw bar butt, to thereby release the latter without disturbing a gear within the yoke.
