Be it lmown that I, Josnrn W. KESSEL, a citizen of the United States, residing. at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Pen-Clip, of which the following is a specification. I

The subject of this invention is a pen clip intended for use on a fountain pen, though adapted for other uses.

A main object of the invention is the provision pffastening means for the clip iurnishing ventilation for the pen cap.

' The invention also contemplates means for. rigidly securing the clip to a pen cap.

A still further object of the invention is to generally improve the construction and en-, hance the utility of clips. I

With theforegoing and other objects in View, which-will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein I Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of-a chp constructed in accordance with the invent on, and shown a plied to a cap;

The usual fountain pen cap, to which the chp 1s shown applied is indicated by the numerallO.

The clip i s constructed of an'elongated str1p-of reslhent, or partiallyresilient metal 11 the free end of which is formed to prov1 e, or has attached thereto a gripping member such as the ball 12. At the other end of the strip 11 are formed, preferably integral with the strip, the laterally projecting tongues 13,'which are adapted to enter slots 14 formed inthe cap. The ends of the tongues are bent over, within the cap, to lock the clip firmly in place, as shown.

That end of the strip 11 at which the tongues 13 are situated is provided with an aperture 15, which is adapted to aline with an aperture 16, formed in the cap 10, when the clip is in place on the cap, and an-eyelet 17 is passed through these apertures and has its ends upset to securely rivet the clip to the cap. The opening through the eyelet pro vides suflicient ventilation for the cap, and reinforces the opening in the cap so that the same is not. weakened by the provision of a ventilating hole or aerture.

Having thus descri ed the invention, what is claimed as new and sought by Letters Patout, is

.1. A clip including in combination with a pen cap, a resilient strip disposed longitudiof the outer face of the cap, the said strip and cap provided with alining apertures, and means inserted in the apertures for binding the strip to the cap and providing an aperture communicating'with the interior of the cap.

2. A'clip including in combination with a. pen cap, a resilient strip disposed longitudinally of the'outer face of the cap, tongues on the strip and passed through the wall of v the cap, the inner ends of the tongues bent to clamp'the strip to the cap, the said strip and cap provided with, ahning apertures,

and means inserted in the apertures for binding the strip to the cap and providing an aperture communicating with the interior of the cap.
