ATTORNEY WITNESSES INVENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLEOPHAS GAMACHE, OF BARRE, VERMONT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF '10 JOSEPH LADRIE, 0F BARBIE, VERMONT.
WINDOW-HEATER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLEOPHAS GAMAOHE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Barre, in the county of Washington and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in YVindoW-Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a heater which can be used in connection with a window sash forheating space between the double glasses of the sash thus preventing snow or ice from collecting upon the glass.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this heater that it will not interfere with the opening or closing of the windowl Another object of the invention is to so construct the heater that it may be protected and further to so construct it that it will take up a minimum amount of room.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing a window provided with the improved heater,
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, I
Fig. 3 is'a sectional view taken along the line -33 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing a modified construction.
The window sash 10 is slidably mounted in the window frame 11 and may have either vertical or transverse sliding movement ac cording to whether the sash is mounted as shown in Fig. 1 or as shown in Fig. 4. This sash will be provided with doubled plates of glass 12 positioned in spaced relation as shown in Fig. 3 and in Fig. 2 and the lower bar 13 and as in Fig. 4, the side bar 14 will be provided with an opening 15 through which the heater housing 16 may pass. This Inoculation 0! Letters Patent.
Application filed November 5, 1917. Serial No. 200,411.
Patented Nov. 19, 1918.
' heater housing is mounted either in the sill 17 or in the side portion of the frame 11 and extends outwardly for passing through the opening 15 when the window is closed thus permitting the heat from the heating element 18 to warm the air in the space between the plates of glass 12 and thus prevent ice and snow from gathering upon the window. This housing is provided with an opening 19 for permitting heating of the air between the glasses 12, it being under stood that as many openin as may be desired may be formed. In t e present form, the heater has been shown as one or more electric bulbs but it is understood thatthis simply shows a conventional form of heating medium and that any form of heating element may be substituted for the one shown, and may be energized either by electricity or may be of a different type, such for instance as steam, hot water or hot air or gas.
Havin thus fully described my invention, what I c aim'as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is A structure of the character described comprising a window frame, a sash movably mounted in the frame and provided withinner and outer panes positioned in spaced relation, the sash being provided with an opening permitting communication with the space between the panes, and a heating medium carried by the frame and extending through the opening in thejsash into the space between the panes when the sash is closed.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLEOPHAS GAMACHE.
