UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRIEDERIGH A. SGHAEFER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT m VEGET'ABLE-CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.128,328, dated June 25,1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Vegetable-Slicer, invented by FRIEDERICH A. SGHAEFER, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri.
Figure 1 represents a face view of my improved vegetable-slicer. Fig. 2 is a detail face view, on an enlarged scale, of part of it, to show the manner of fastening the wire. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to an improved hand implement for cutting vegetables or fruits into slices; and consists in the combination of a wire cutter with a rectangular and handled metallic frame. The invention also consists in one special manner of fastening and drawing the wire, though other modes may be substituted.
A in the drawing represents an open frame, of suitable form and size, provided with a handle or shank, a, of suitable kind. Across it is drawn a wire, B, in zigzag order or in parallel lines, as shown in Fig. 1. These lines of wire may be made of one piece by drawing the wire from the fastening-pin b at one end over a series of pins or prongs, c c, that project from the frame A at the sides, and then fastening the other end of the wire to a pin, d, all
as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. When the frame is made of metal it will be cheaper to form the prongs c on it in the manner shown in Fig. 2, so that the wire may be laid around these prongs. When the frame is made of wood or composition, and in some cases even when made of metal, it may receive projecting pins for the wire to be laid around. It is not even necessary that the wire should be in one piece, as it may be made in several-pieces, if desired.
This instrument will be easy to use, cutting cleanly and even. It can be kept neat and clean, easily repaired, and cheaply made.
Having thus described my invent-ion, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. As an improved article of manufacture, the fruit and vegetable slicer formed of the rectangular metal frame A provided with the handle a and the wire B, arranged as shown and described.
2. The frame A provided with the projectin g prongs c 0 for the support of the wire B, as set forth.
FRIEDERIGH AUGUST SGHAEFER.
