Be it known that I, LEOPOLD HAUSER, aV citizen of theUnited States, and resident offtheborough of Manhattan, city of New York,"coiinty of New York, and State of N ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bags, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to bags suoli as are applicable for use as receptacles for hand* kerchieiis', collars, cuffs, ties, jewelry or the like and the object of the invention is to provide a bag which will have a plurality of compartments that will be separated from eachother and which bag will occupy a coin-Y paratively small space when one or both of the compartments is or are'not utilized.

The invention particularly relates to a bag havingan. upper compartment which is suitable for holding` such articles as collars, cuis or the like and `a lower box-like receptacleor drawer suitable for handkerchiefs, jewels or other articles, which receptacle is capable ofV being removed by lateral movement.Y j, 1-` 'c The invention furthermore relates to a bag having` a circular holl'ow'r'eceiving portion in the upper partthereof and a circular base or lower part in which there is a` lateral y y sliding drawer or receptacle having parallel sides and man Aexposed endfwhich conforms withthe outer curvature of the bag. l The upper `and lower portions of this bag are separated by a transverse partition which is secured to the lining of the bag.

The invention Afurthermore relatesvto a bag having a drawer which is provided with a small pull, the casing therefor having a drawer securing strap Vlocated so that it will cover the `drawer pull when holding the drawer in closed position. The invention also relates to other improvements which will be pointed out more specifically hereinafter. y

these are vertically extending members and they are comparatively stiif and are rigidly connected with `the `intermediate partition and the base thereby forming a firm and strong lower compartment or Casing `for receivingthe drawer 4. The outer covering' or outer member 13 of `the body of the bag is preferably madeo'f leather and extends the full length thereof and iscut ont where the drawer enters the base and where it is thus cut it is turned inwardly to the underside of the intermediate partition 5p to the

11 and 12 and to the iipper part of the base 6. The lower end of said outer cover 13 is turned under and secured Vto the relatively stii or rigid portion 7 of the base and is subsequently covered by the padded portion 8 oil the base so that the bag will present a finished appearance.

The drawer is also provided with a small pull 18 and there is also securedA to curing clip 20 which extends between the" be secured to the base`64 bymeans of a se base and strap. In the construction showiiin Figs. 1 to 5 the lower end of the securing clip is substantiallyflush withythe lower side of the base portion. The cover 13 instead of being made of leather may be made of anyother suitable material and it is also provided with a lining` 13 that is secured to the up-V board. The exposed' surfaces of the niembers 51 and 52 are covered with a layer of fabric or other lining material indicated by 5a and `5b. The edges a and b of the lining 1 a- 5b extend into the spaces between the relatively stiff partition members 51and 52N and said edges are respectively secured to said members as by means of glue. Portions of the inner lining 131` extend into the space between the relativelyy stiff partition members 51 and 52 and these portions of the body lining are securedas by means 'of glue to Ythe members of the transverse partition bctween which they extend.. The general construction of the bag shown in Figs. l6 and`7 is substantiallythe same as that` shown in Figs., l to 5. rl`he drawer or `box-like receptacle of the bag shown in Figs. 6 and 7 has been shown with only -one large center compartment 141 and end compartments 17 and 171., It has Valso been shown as deeper than the box shown in Figs. l to I5. The upper partv of the bag instead of being provided with a draw-string, such as is shown in Fig. l, is closed by means ofa swinging cover 24 which has a hinged connection asv at 25. This cover is substantially` fiat and is made in any suitable manner as for instance by means of a relatively stiff pasteboard that is covered on the exterior with the same material as the outer covering of the bag and it is preferably lined with the same material that with which the bag is lined. The outer covering of the bag is designated by the reference character 26 and extends the full height of the bag. The lining 27 is secured to the transverse partition 5 and to the upper portion `of the cover in any suitable manner. The top of the body is reinforced by a metallic ring 28 which is substantially circulaiand which con'formsto of thecover. i This ring reinforces the upper portionV of the ibag.` Thecoverand'ring can be moved toward the lower compartment of the bag since the body and lining are made of flexible material and can be crushed.

MFromV an inspection of Fig. 5 it will be observed that the outer covering passes over the reinforced ringand is vfolded back upon itself and that the lining folded` over and the parts-thus folded are secured togetherl by the stitching at 29,.` The bagshownin Figs. 6 and 7, except as` above enumerated,

is., substantially the same as the bag shown in Figs. 1 to 5. Y

It will be manifest that the invention may be combined in various forms and modifica-` scope of the invention.

A bag of'tliefclass describedhaving a` flexible outer body member, a transverse partition and a hinged cover on one end thereof, the` fiexible body having aV lining which is secured thereto at'or adjacent to one `end thereof, the transverse partition comprising a plurality of comparatively stiif members the exposed sides of which are covered with a suitable material that extends into the space between said members and whichis secured? to themembers that it covers, the lining also, extending into the space between said `relatively stiffl members and being secured tothem,at least one end of the body being provided with a reinforcing ring that serves to maintain the flexiblc free edge of therbody in proper shape, said cover being hinged to the end thus reinforced, the bag also being provided with means for detachably securing the cover in closed position.

A bag of the class described comprising a flexible body having a lining and a reinforcing ringat one end thereof, said bag having a transverse partition secured to the lining intermediate the ends of the body and a cover secured to the body at the end thus reinforced, which cover conforms in shape to the reinforcing ring which is provided in the body, the bag also being provided with means for detachably securing the cover in closed position.L

6. A bag of the class described having an outer cover extending the full height of the bag, an intermediate partition extending horizontally forming between it and thebottom of the bag a lower or base compartment, vertical partitions between the intermediate partition and the bottom, the cover being slit and turned into the space formed by the base and partitions to provide an opening for a drawer, and a drawer in the base compartment which can be operated by lateral movement.

A bag having an opening at the side, a receptacle that enters the opening the front of which receptacle is flush with the face of the case when in closed position, said receptacle being normally retained in place by means ofa strap an end of which strap rests in an opening made in the bottom, the depth of the opening in the bottom being sufficient so that a securing clipwhich is between the strap and the bottom will not project beyond the lowest face of the bottom.

8. A bag having an opening, a drawer entering the opening, a pull on the end of the drawer, and a drawer securing strap, on the case ofthe bag, which strap runs across the face of the drawer and over the pull thereof whereby the pull is concealed when the strap is holding the drawer in place.
