Be it known that we, ALEXSANDER Bonos and EUGENE HEMESTRAY, subjects of the King` of Hungary, residing at Midland, county of Beaver, and State of Pennsyl-V vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in horseshoes, and may be attached other devices entering into the hoof ofthe animal.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a horseshoe having means by which it may be firmly attached without the use of tools andv be used either `temporarily or permanently.
A further object is to provide means combined with the shoe whereby it may be iitted to various sizes of hoofs so as to be held in irm engagement therewith.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter1 described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which z- Figure l is a side elevational view showing a shoe made in accordance with the invention.

The shoe body ismade in the usual conventional U shape, the eXtreme front 10 being the bend acting as the toe of the shoe, from which extend the side elements 11 to the heels 12, which are rounded and recessed, forming forks between which are secured the reduced ends 14 of links 15, pivotally connected in the manner of hinges by the pivot pins 1G.

At the front is engaged a toe calk 20, the same being formed with or having inserted rigidly stem 21 engageable within a screw-threaded opening in the toe of the shoe, while at the other end of the calk is an opening 22 re ,ceptive of a screw 23, passing downward through an opening in the toe, so as to secure the calk in a rigid manner.
In a recess formed in the upper surface of the shoe bod is a plate 25, rigidly secured by means of rivets 26, the plate having an upturned portion 27, its extreme point ter minating in a 'T shaped member 28, bent rearwardly at substantially right angles practically parallel with the upper surface of the shoe body.
Adapted to rest upon the upper portion of the shoe is a curved clamp element having beveled walls forming a partial band 30, covering the front and sides of the shoe and having at the extreme front portion a clip 3l, attached by rivets 32, the clip being bent outwardly and then upwardly, forming a pair of spaced prongs 33, enga-geable with the stem of the T shaped members 28, thereby fastening the front of the clamp element to the shoe in a secure manner.
Secured upon the outer surface of the clamp element, near the heel, are reinforcements 34, which, together with the extendin portions of the clamp are united and suited to enter the rectangu ar openings 18, formed in the swinging links l5, and are held therein by means of cotter-pins 36, passing through openings drilled through the ends of the reinforcements so as to hold them firmly therein.
From the foregoing, it will be understood that an animals hoof may be laced upon the shoe, the clamp element adjusted theretherein, a threaded,
over, and engaged so as to be locked at the a front by the member 28, afte1 which the links 15 may be turned upwardly upon their pivots 16 so as to engage with the extending ends and the Cotter-pms inserted, locking the entire structure rigidly together.
Should the hoof fail to ill the opening between the side walls of the clamping element and top of the shoe use may be made of space plates 38, the contour of their eX- tending limbs 39 being made in conformity with the top of the shoe and suited to be received within the clamp element, and it will be understood that several of the space plates 38 may be used so as to press the hoof outwardly against the converging walls 30 of the clamp element when it is engaged with the body of the shoe.
