GEORGE WELIKI, F HAMILTON, ONTARIO, CANADA.
HORSESHOE.
Application filed February 4, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen WELIKI, a citizen of Russia, residing at Hamilton, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in horseshoe attachments, and particularly to a type of attachment which can be readily secured to the horseshoe, if a sudden change in temperature should require the use of an anti-slipping device.
It is the object of this invention to provide a horseshoe attachment of cheap, simple, and durable construction that may be readily and quickly attached to or removed from a horses shoe.
A further object of the invention is to provide simple means for quickly securing the attachment to a horseshoe without requiring the services of a blacksmith.
A still further object is to provide an attachment adapted to be adjusted to varying sizes of horseshoes.
The invention consists in certain details in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the parts, as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in the claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the attachment constructed according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the attachment.
The body 10 of the attachment has the form of a horseshoe andis provided with a toe clip 11 and side clips 12 for engagement with a horseshoe.
The free shanks 13 and 14; of the body are adapted to be engaged by a clamp ele- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1920.
Serial No. 356,145.
In order to clamp the attachment to a horseshoe after its toe clip 11 and side clips 12 have been properly positioned thereon, a rod 16 is provided which extends through the body 10 and is provided at one end with a knob or head 17 engaging the outer face of the body beneath the toe clip while the other screw-threaded end of said bolt is passed through the element 15 and carries a winged nut 18 for the purpose of securing the element 15 in position after it has been properly adjusted to fit the particular size of horseshoe.
In order to avoid slipping of the horse on slippery ground the attachment is or may be provided at its under side with a plurality of nails or studs 19.
Other slight modifications might obviously be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do'not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth, but what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An attachment for horseshoes comprising a horseshoe-like body, a toe and two lateral clips, a clamp element adapted to engage the free ends of the body, a clamp rod adapted to engage with its head the outer face of said body and passed with its free screw-threaded end through said clamp element, an adjusting clamp nut upon said end, flanges on said element adapted to engage grooves in said body, and a plurality of anti-slipping nails upon the under face of said body.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
GEORGE VVELIKI.
