ATTACHMENT FOR RESERVOIR-IPENS.
Patented Oct. 22, 1918. Application filed April 18,1918. SerialNo. 229,425.
To all whom it concern:
Be it known that we, JEREMIAH WILLIAMS and Iunwnnnrn THoMAs J ONES, subjects of the King of Great Britain, residlng at Abergele, North Wales, in the Kin dom of Great Britian', and "Old Colwyn, orth Wales, aforesaid, respectively, have invented certainnew and useful Im rovements in At- .tachments for Reservoirens, of which the following is a specification.
This inventionhas for its object to combine with a reservoir pen or with a reservoir penclip, a, receptacle for holdin a supply of tablets of ink of the kmd t at are dissolved in water in the reservoirs of such pens to supply the necessary writing fluid.
According to the present invention, a suitable receptacle for holding a supply of ink tablets is provided, having means for permanently or removably attaching the same directly to the side of the body or cap of a fountain, stylographic or other reservoir pen. In one case the receptacle is so attached directly to the cap or body of'the pen at the side, or to a clip or clips which hold the pen sufliciently tightly to prevent accidental detachment, that the material of the pocket can be clamped between the receptacle and the pen, whereby the said receptacle performs the two-fold'function of a clamp for holdin a pen in the-pocket of the owners appare, and aholder for the ink tablets. In another case such receptacle performs the single function of a holder for ink tablets, the clip being relied upon to perform the function of holding the pen in the wearers pocket.
In the accompanying drawings 2-- Figures 1, 2 and 4 are perspective views v of our reservoir pen attachment in which the receptacle performs the two-fold function aforesaid, and
Figs. 3 and 5 are perspective views of ourv reservoir pen attachment in which the're-' ceptacle performs the slngle flmction of a" holder for ink tablets, the clip being. relied on for holding the pen in the wearers pocket.
Referrin to these drawings,'A is the box or receptac e for holding a supply of ink tablets, and B the cap or lid for closing the same, or "a cover, or half covers moving 7 in opposite directions, or a sliding lid may be provided instead. This box or receptacle 1s provided with means for permanently or Specification of Letters Patent.
reinovably attaching it to the body or cap of .a reservoir pen such as C at the side in such manner that the two elements A and C are spaced away from each other such a disstance that the material of the pocket can be clamped between them.
In Fig. 1 the box or receptacle A is made stralght longitudinally but is of curved or segmental-circular shape in cross section, and has attached to its concave face apair of spring clips such as D (which partially or wholly encircle the pen when inserted thereinto) and is also provided with abutments E against which the pen abuts, and which keep the box or receptacle spaced away from the pen such a distance that the material of the pocket can be clamped .between the lower part of the receptacle and the pen. The clips D which clamp the pen sufliciently tightly to prevent the accidental detachment of the pen, act as springs to pull the box or receptacle with the abutmentsE against the outside of the pocket, and thus the said receptacle performs the, double function of a clip for holding the pen in the pocket and as a holder for the ink tablets.
The pen can be inserted longitudinally into the clips D. The surface of the lower part of the receptacle A which comes against the pocket may be roughened or serrated, or it may be rubber lined to grip the front of so that the material of the pocket can be clamped between the lower part of the receptacle and the'pen thus acting as a clip. In Fig. 4 the arran ement is similar except that the receptacle is made of a different sha e in cross section and is provided with a shding'door F instead of the screw-on cap G of Fig. 2. In Fig. 3 the clip D which is attached to the receptacle A has a horn like extension H depending downward below the bottom of the receptacle A between which horn-like extensions and the pen the material of the pocket is clamped. The lower end of this extension has a projecting nose piece I which serves to ip or bite the material of the pocket. 11 this example the receptacle A is 'not relied on to grip the pocket, and can consequently be .made shorter in length. In all these figures the cured to the clips D by-lriveting boxes or receptacles A are permsnently sebody. orcapof a reservoir pen at' the side r by other and parallel thereto in such manner'that the suitable connection, the clips forming the two elements are spaced away from each means by-which the receptacleAli's removother such a distance that the material "of ably held against) the side of the pen. If the wearers pocket can be clamped between desired however the receptacle A of F gs. l, them.
2, 3 and 4 may 'be permanently secured 'direel; to the side of the pen and parallel there-.- in combination with reservoir pens, compristongues K projecting the reverse .way to the y In Fig. the clip D is also provided wit to in such manner as to be spaced awe from ing a receptacle for holding ink tablets, a the pen a s flicien distance-as-to a 16 he clip or clips secured thereto for receiving material of the pocket flo be clamped beand holding a reservoir pen ina'removable tween them. manner sothat the receptacle shall be b t thiSeXtenSiOnJ is formed i l pp g on so that the-material ofthe pocket can 0 v clampe between them. chppm tongue D, the 'tOII 6 D beln 4.
