Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. PERKINS, a subject of the King of England, residing in the city of Portland, county of Multnomah, and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Expansible GarmentStretch ers, of which the following is a specication.

My invention relates to garment stretchers, and more particularly to a combination stretcher, adapted for use in baby stockings and shirts after they have been washed, for the purpose of stretching them while they are drying, and thus preventing them from shrinking.

Among the salient objects of my invention are,-to provide a combination .stretcher which can be used both for stockings and for shirts, and which is capable of adjustment, so that it can be used with various sizes of stockings and shirts, thus providing a stretcher which can be used for small garments, and which can be adjusted from time to time to adapt it to larger garments, as required, thus avoiding the necessity of buying a stretcher for each size of garment worn, and to provide a combination article of the character referred to, which can be cheaply manufactured and sold for a reasonable price.

In order that others may thoroughly understand my invention, I have illustrated in the accompanying sheet of drawings one practical form thereof, which I will now describe.

Referring now more in detail to the drawing, the stretcher comprises a two-part body, the parts of which are designated 1 and 2, hinged together at 3, and provided at their lower ends with foot forms, 1a and 2a, as

shown in full lines. Two auxiliary body members 4f and 5, having at their lower ends foot forms, la and 5a, similar to the foot forms, la a, and adapted to register therewith when in their folded positions, are plvotally connected, as at 4b and 5b, to the foot forms la and 2a, respectively, so that when said members 4 and 5 are moved laterally from the members l and 2, as indicated in dotted lines, the two foot forms 2a and 5a, for example, assume the positions indicated by the solid and dotted lines, at the right hand side of Fig. l, the two together thus adjusted making a larger foot form, as will be clearly understood from the drawmg.

Pivotally attached to the upper ends of the members l and 2 are two arm members 6 and 7, provided at their outer ends with adjustment holes 6a and 7a, and intermediate their ends have cam-like portions 6b and 7b. Connecting arms 8 and 9 are pivotally attached to the upper ends of the members l and 5, and are adapted to be adjustably connected at their outer ends to the outer ends of the arms 6 and 7, as indicated. Thus in adjusting the device for garments of a` larger size, the arms 8 and 9 are detached from the arms 6 and 7 and are moved outwardly and attached nearer to the outer ends of the arms 6 and 7, as indicated by the dotted line positions of the members 5, 9 and 7.

It will readily be seen that the stretcher is adapted both for stockings and shirts. The arms 6 and 7 and the connecting members 8 and 9, are adapted to be inserted into the sleeves of the shirt, while the body of the shirt 'is stretched around the members 4 and 5. It will also be seen that as said members 4 and 5 are moved apart, they will be adapted to stretch shirts having a larger bust measurement.

The two halves of the device can be folded toward each other to facilitate the application of the shirt thereto, and when the arms 8 and 9 are disconnected at their outer ends from the arms 6 and 7, the parts can be folded together in compact form for shipment. The upper ends of the arms 4 and 5 are preferably grooved and adapted to have a sliding, interiitting engagement with the arms 6 and 7, and with the cam portions 6 and 7b thereof, as the parts are adjusted'outwardly to the position indicated in dotted lines. l Y

It will also be apparent that if the arms 6 and 7 are raised slightly, the members 4 and 5 will be correspondingly moved out- H wardly, and the member 8 moved away slightly from the arm 6, as indicated in dotted lines at the left hand side of Fig. l, thus giving a slight expansion movement to the body member 4l and the connectingr arm member 8, without any change of the connection between the outer end of vthe member 8, and the outer end of the member 6.

I am aware that many changes can be made in the details of the invention as here shown for purposes of illustration without departing from the spirit thereof,y and I do not, therefore, limit my invention to the particular form here shown, except as I may be limited by the hereto appended claims.

In a garment stretcher, a body member having a foot format its lower end, an auxiliary body member having a foot form at its lower end, said foot forms being pivoted latwise together in register with each other, whereby as said body members are moved apart, said foot forms. are moved out of register with each other,and together constitute an expanded foot form.
