county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Security-Halters, of which the following is a specification:
Great inconvenience often arises in consequence of horses becoming released, either by accident or design, after they are fastened, and my invention is intended to provide a remedy for this trouble.
My invention consists in the herein-described arrangement of the halter chain or strap, and two plates attached thereto for securing the halter around the animals neck, whereby the two plates are securely locked together by the said chain or strap itself, as hereinafter set forth.
The accompanying drawing represents my invention in operation. 9
A represents a horses head and neck, to which is attached the security-halter B. Said halter, chain, or strap is made of metal, of any convenient form, and attached to which are two plates, 0 C. One of these plates contains three slots; the other contains a metal staple which fits either of the slots. D is a lock which securely fastens the halter, chain, or strap to the post. This lock is intended to be made of a size and shape convenient to pass through said staple, but it could not be con veniently so made in the model.
The halter chain or strap can be readily icovered with cloth, leather, or other suitable material.
When it is desirable to fasten the horse the halter is placed around his neck, the staple passed through one of said slots most convenient, and the halter chain or strap is passed through the staple and through the hitchingring fastened to the post or elsewhere. The two parts of the halter chain or strap are then placed together at any convenient place, and the lock firmly secures them to the post.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the halter chain or strap B, and the plates C C, one with its slot or slots, and the other with its staple, in the manner described, whereby the plates are locked together by the said chain or strap, substantially as herein specified.
