Description

WILLIAM L. BABCOX.
Improvement in Broom-Clamps.
N0.128,204 Q Patented June 25,1872.
Inventor.
UN TED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM L. BABooX, or ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BROOM-CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,204, dated June 25, 1872 antedated J une 6,1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. BABooX, of Erie city and county, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Broom-Clamp; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to provide a clamp or bridle for the lower part of a broom, the object of which is to strengthen or stiii'en the broom.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a clamp for brooms, the same to be made of wire and so constructed as to be easily removed and to be used on successive brooms as the old ones are put aside.
The following is a description of my invention: The drawing shows my invention as follows:
Figure 1 shows my device in use on a broom. Fig. 2 shows my device before it is placed on a broom. Fig. 3 shows the manner of attaching the device to a broom.
My device is constructed of two pieces of elastic wire, each piece so fashioned as to form one-half of the clamp, and both so interlocked as to form a complete clamp. The parts A A are the sidestrips of the clamps. B B are the clamping-irons. O is a hook formed on one of the halves of the clamp; and D is a loop formed on the other half of the clamp. The halves of the clamp are jointed at E E by interlocking the two pieces of wire.
The manner of attaching this device to a broom is as follows: Place it on a broom in the position shown in Fig. 3. Then punch a hole through the broom in about the position shown by the dotted line q. Then drive the hook (3 through and hook it into the loop D. The device is then in the position shown in Fig.1. The parts 13 B being outside of the side strips A A'they draw the parts AA firmly against the 'brooms brush and firmly clamp it.
What I claim as new is as follows:
The broom-clamp herein described, formed of two wires fashioned and interlocked so as to form the parts A A and B B and the hinges E E and hook O and loop D, arranged and operatingas set forth.
WILLIAM L. BABOOX.
