TOILET KIT HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED APR.6. |918.

g RALPH lVI. COEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOILET-KIT HOLDER.
Speceaton of Letters Patent. Patentd 0st. 15, 1918.
Application filed April s, 191s. serial No. 227,046.
To all whom t may concern Beit known that I, RALPH M. CoEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Kit Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My improvements relate to flexible and foldable holders for the storage and transportation of kits of various kinds, more especially for travelers toilet kits. The object of the invention is to afford simple b-ut efective means `whereby the several articles may be securely held in position in the holder, at the same time strengthening and reinforcing the latter and maintaining its shape, all as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed specifically,a distinctive feature being the use of Vtransverse base plates which not only stiffen the holder laterally, but also act as foundations for the male or button stud members of the fastenings used to pinch t-he retaining straps, and at the same time afford a rigid support for the bights of said retaining straps when folded thereunder, thereby effectually locking the straps and articles embraced thereby.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure l, is a view of my improved kit holder opened up and spread out ready for the positioning of toilet articles;
Fig. 2, is a longitudinal section taken upon planes of line 2 2, Fig. l;
Fig. 3, is a view similar to Fig. l, but showing toilet articles secured in position;
Fig. 4, is a sectional detail, full size, showing a cross section of one of the base plates and its relation to the inturned end and bight of a retaining strap;
Fig. 5, is a sectional detail of a base plate and fastenings.
As before intimated the present invention relates more particularly to the means for securing the outer or free ends of the straps s, s, which are used to retain the toilet or other articles a, in position in the holder H, considering the latter as a whole. Thus 71 represents the back or outer covering of the holder, which is formed with body pockets L, L, and an end flap pocket h2. h3 are the side flaps, which fold over the body ockets 7L', 7L', and cover the articles a, held gy the retaining straps s, as indicated Vin The retaining straps e, a, are secured at ons -be accommodated.
bands l), b, as shown particularly/in Fig. 3,
the cross bands b, enabling the retaining .straps to be formed into loops s', s', to embrace any of the articles a, desired,-tlle loops S, s', being larger or smaller according to the sizes and character of the articles a, to
In the back h, of the holder H, are incorporated elongated base plates p, preferably of lnetal,these base plates p, being positioned parallel to and coincident'with the edges of the body pockets 72,, it. Extending laterally across the back' ,71, of the holder H, the base plates b act as ribs to reinforce and maintain the shape of the body of the holder. They also perform the lnore important functions of relatively rigid supports for the male or button members m', of the socket fastenings mi, by which the mouths of the body pockets L, are secured in closed position, and of pressure plates to hold the inturned ends of the retaining straps s, firmly in position, as shown more partic- -ularly in Fig. 4, of the drawings, by reference to which it will be seen that the parts of the strap s, adjacent to the bight s, are pinched between the cross band b, and the base plate p. Thus when the edges of the pockets 72,', are secured by the fastenings m, to the base plates adjacent to the retaining straps s, the latter will be firmly locked against longitudinal movement or slip, thereby holding the embraced1 articles a, firmly in position.
The portions of the back Il, between the pockets form flexible liga-ments which admit of the folding of the holder upon itself in the usual way. c, is an exterior strap and c', a buckle by which the holder may be held in folded relationship.
The base plates p, are an important factor in strengthening and maintaining the shape of the holder against lateral collapse or compression, but their more important function is the locking of the inturned ends of the retaining straps s, s, as herein set forth.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
L n kit holder ef the character desigcl nated, the combination of a backing formed with a body pocket, cross bands on the face of the pocket, a retaining strap secured to the holder and adapted to be passed under said cross bands and be tucked into the pocket,l a base plate onk holder in alinement with the edge of the pocket, and means for positively securing said edge of the pocket to the base plate, for the purpose described.
2. In a kit holder' of the character designated, the combination of a backing formed with body pockets, cross bands on the faces of the pockets, retaining straps secured to the holder and adapted to be passed under said cross bands and Vto be tucked into said pockets, base plates on the back lof the holder in alinement with the edges ofthe pockets, and means for positively securing the edges of said pockets to the base plates, for the purpose described.
3. In a kitholder of the character designated, the combination of a backing formed the faces of the pockets, retaining straps secured to the holder and adapted to be passed under said cross bands and to be tucked into Copies of this patent may bel obtained for the back ofthe Y bersrigidly attached to ignated-f, the- With body pockets, cross bands on saidpockets, base plates on the back of the holder in alinement with the edgesof the pockets, and means for positively securing theedges of said pockets to the base plate, said means consisting of male button memthe basefplatesT and of engaging socket pieces on the edges of the pockets, for the purpose described.
4. In a kit holder of the character designated, the combinationof a backing with pockets; a base plate, a retaining strap adapted to have itsend tucked in one of said pockets, and a positive lock for said strap.
5.111 a kit holder of the character descombination of a back-ing with pockets, a base plate, a retaining strap adapted to have its" end tucked in one of said"v pockets, and a positive lock for said strap, said base plate extending vat right angles to the' length of the strap andi serving to hold the holder against lateral vcollapse and to lock theinturned end` of the stra-p.V
