BELTING.
To all whomt may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDRE M. GREAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improveis a specification.
The present invention relates to belting of the general character and for the purposes of that disclosed in my patent, No. 1,183,869, May 23, i916.
The object is to provide ak strong, {iexible, and at the same time, relatively inexpensive article that may be manufactured in substantially any length desired, and from which portions or sections may be cut for individual use.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of one side of a portion of a length of belting constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the opposite side.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view, and
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view somewhat diagrammatic in its character, showing the elements separated to more clearly illustrate the construction and relation thereof.
`F ig. 5 is a detail view of a portion of the finished material when laid out straight.
Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings. i
In the Vembodiment disclosed, a casing strip 5 of woven flexible material is employed, the longitudinal marginal portions 6 of said strip bein doubled inwardly toward each other, this strip thus producing a casing, the edges 7 of the strip preferably meeting centrally and forming a longi-v tudinal joint.
Within the casing thus produced, is located a reinforcing strip 8 also of woven material, which ispreferably coarser and stiffer, a suitable filling being employed in said strip 8 to produce the desired stili'- ness.
Extending longitudinally along one side of the casing strip and bridging the joint between the edges 7,.is a tape 9, also of woven material, this tape being secured in n y Specification of Letters Patent.

place by suitable means, as for example, a zigzag line of stitching 10, which passes through the tape 9, the margin 6, the central portion of the reinforcing strip 8 and the opposite wall or body of the casing strip 5.
The belting thus produced is shaped to have permanent transverse curvature, and the margins are made longer than the cen tral portion. In its construction the preferable method is to associate and secure the various parts together, and afterward produce the said curvaturev by inoistening the belting and shaping the same between heated dies. One of these dies is a round block having a transversely curved surface, and the coperating die has a reversely shaped mating surface. The material when pressed between said dies has its side margins stretched or made longer than its intermediate part, thereby producing the transverse curvature. It will be understood that other methods may be employed.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many `advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and vit will be understood that various'changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an article of manufacture, a length of belting, comprising a casing strip of flexible material having its side margins turned inwardly toward each other, a reinforcingV strip located within the casing thus formed, and a line of zig-zag stitching passing through the edges of the strip and through the intermediate portions of the reinforc- -ing strip and bridging the joint formed by strip located Within the casing thus formed, and longer than the intermediate portion of and means securing the inturned longithe reinforcing strip. 1G tudinal edges of the casing strip and the In testimony whereof, I afX my signaintermediate portion of the reinforcing ture in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
strip together, said length ofv belting being y ALEXANDRE M. GREAN. shaped to have a permanent transverse Witnesses: curvature and having its Longitudinal marv v ANDREW R. CLEXTON, gins longer than its intermediate portionv s IsADoRE SAMUELS.
