IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM SlPHON-PUMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,984, dated June 18, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS ORoRKE, of the city of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Siphon Steam-Pumps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a siphon steam-pump in three parts, combined, arranged, and operated with relation to each other, as hereinafter described.
The accompanying drawingrepresents a vertical and longitudinal section of the pump- A being the case of it; B, a detached piece, which is secured to the case A by means of screw-threads e, and is provided with a bellmouth opening, 9, and recesses 00 and 00, which are used for the purpose of facilitating the cutting of the screw-threads f. 0 represents an adjustable pipe, which is secured in the desired position in the case A by means of screwthreads D. The pipe 0 is provided with a bell-mouth opening, h, and the opening of this pipe is concentric to the opening 9 of the detached piece B. The outlet of the pipe 0 can be adjusted with relation to the bell-mouth opening g by screwingit in or out through the medium of the screw-threads D. The steamwater to be drawn up into the case A, and I forces it out through the bell-mouth opening g and through the pipe attached to the piece B.
The advantage of constructing the pump as herein described consists in being able to ad just the outlet of the pipe 0 with relation to the bell-mouth opening g, and in being enabled to cast the several parts with greater facility, whereby the pump can be constructed at less cost, and the several parts arranged with relation to each other so as to adapt it to the lifting and discharging of liquids of different specific gravities.
What I claim is The combination of the case A with the pip O and piece B, when constructed and arranged as and for the purpose herein set forth.
