IMPROVEMENT IN SELF-HEADING BOLTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,934, dated June 11, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN B. G. STONE,
, of Catskill, in the county of Greene and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self- Heading Bolts; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawin g and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a self-heading bolt for fastening plates or patches on boilers, 850., or for any purpose where needed, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and smooth. Longitudinally through the bolt A is a slot or mortise, a, in which is placed a bar, B, pivoted in the bolt by a rod, 1), passing through the bar and through slots or mortises (I cut through the sides of the bolt into the slot or mortise a, or, in other words, at right angles with it. The rod 1) passes through the bar B about midway of its width, but nearer from the outside, made in a boiler or other place where needed, the bar B being inclosedin the slot a; then. the bolt is turned and the bar B drops, forming a head to the bolt, and the nut D is tightened, the washer 0 being first put on.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isr The headless bolt A, provided with mortise a and side slots d, within which is secured't-he pivoted block B, whose bearing is within the slot, substantially as shown anddescribed.
