ELIAS I. MASTERSON, OF PQRT JARVIS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN sAsH-HoLDERs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,906, dated June 11, 1872.
. i SPEGIEIATION.
reference bein ghad to the accompanying drawing making a partl of this specification, in whichy Figure 1 represents a broken-off section or portion of a window-sashV and window-frame, showing the combined holder and lock as iitted to the same. Fig. 2 shows a face view of internal parts or mechanism for holding the sash up in any position and locking it closed. Fig. 3 is a shaded perspective view of the same.
My invention relates to combined windowsash holder and lock; and it consists in the simple arrangement of placing an eccentric cam on a pin in one end of a case and a tumbler-bolt on another pin at the other 'end of the case, and connecting the two together by a spiral spring to hold either or both the cam and tumbler in position.
To enable others to make, apply, and use my improved sash-stop and lock I will describe it more fully, referring to the drawing and letters marked thereon.
A is the cast-metal case, having pins a and b cast on either its under side or on bottom plate B. On pin a is fitted an eccentric cam,
0 which has cast on it a projecting pin, c,
extending out through a curved slot, e, in the cap or case, by which the cam is actuated so as to allow the sash to be vmoved up or down. D is the tumbler, which forms the bolt for securely locking the window when closed, is cast any proper form to best eiiect the purpose, and is pivoted on the pin b at the other end of the case A. This tumbler-bolt has also aprojecting pin, d, cast on it, by which it is actuated to unlock the sash. The projections c on the cam G, and d on the tumbler-bolt D form the hitching-pins for the spiral spring f, which connects the cam and the tumbler-bolt together, andoperates on bothto hold them in position, the cam C bearing as a friction-stop against the jamb E of the window-frame, and the tum- *bler-bolt D locking into the recess i made in ,the jamb or casing to receive it. The metal case A is let into the inside fac'e of the window-frame F flush, and is secured by a single screw, h, in the central portion of it, the hole i for it being made or cast in both the plates.
It is not necessary that there should be two plates' to the case A, as a flanged cap with the openings in it for the operating-pins c and d, and the pivoting-pins a and-11 cast on to receive the cam G and the bolt D when tted in the sash F and secured by the screw h, will answer every purpose.
It will readily be seen that a very cheap and efficient window-sash holder and lock are provided, when constructed and applied in the manner as above described.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The improved sash-holder, consisting of the slotted shell or case, the eccentric cam C having a projecting pin, c, the tumbler-bolt D with its projecting pin d, and the connecting-spring f actuating both cam and bolt, all constructed, arranged, and operating as described and shown, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name.
