BUCKLE.
APPLlcAloN FILED MAY 4, 191s.
Patented Sept. 10, 1918.
'and eilicient in EDWIN J. Herren AND erwarte' n noso'rrrin", or MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
BUCKLE'.
Specification of Letters Patent.'
ratentea'septio, 1ere'.
pplication filed 4, 1918. Serial No. 232,560.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that waowln Harnais and EDWARD Heusorrm citizens othe United States residingiat Minnea lis, 1n the county of ennepin andState o Minnesota, have invented new and useful llmprovements in Buckles, of a specification. i
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in belt buckles and the principal objecto the invention.L is to provide means on the buckle for holding the free end of the strap hidden from view by the rest of the belt.
Other objects are to provide gripping means for removably securing the belt to the buckle and 'a' gripping roller operating in inclined rgrooves for securing the-free end of thebelt to the buckle.
Another object of the invention is to provideV a device of this character which is simple and durable in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the vmar- 'and specifically pointed out in 4shown in Fig. i
ket at a minimum cost. v
IThe invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arran ement of the several parte, to be hereinaer fully. described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings claims.
In describing our invention' in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and 1n whicliz Figure i is a side view of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
Fig. 3 is a rear view.
Fig. fi is afront view.
Figs. 5 and 6 are end views.
In these views the buckle is shown at 1, the free end yof the belt at 2 and the fastened end at 3. The buckle consists of a plate 4 having its side ed es turned downwardly as at 5. The buck e is slightly curved as to conform to the body and the side flanges are each provided with a slot 6, said slots inclining upwardly toward the end of the buckle is mounted in these slots With its ends enlarged to hold the roller therein. Av plate 8 is pivotally mounted in the side tlangesatI the other end of the buckle and the edge of this plate is bent at iight 'angles and cut to which the following is that the device may be used with straps of with our improved construction, reliable the appendedv .ing side flanges,
as shown. A roller 7 provide teeth-asshown at 9. Said teeth being so disposed that when the plate is swu thin material. lIn heavy. straps holes will be punched to receive said teeth.
`We prefer to provide a lu or pin.'10 adjacent'thefront edge ofthe uckle and ex'- tending inwardly from the inner face thereof and this pin engages holes 11 formed in the free end of the belt and acts as an additional holding means to of the belt to the buckle. 5
It will be seen that the belt when usedv buckle may be easily adjusted to lit the person. This maybe done by raising the plate 8 and cutting ol a suiiicient part of the belt to make the belt of the proper length and then replacing the buckle thereon by causing the plate to grip the end thereof. In using the device the free end of the belt is placed under the roller and it will be 'seen that the grippingplateS will cause the end of the belt to pass under the fastened end thereof so that the free end will be hidden from view. In carrying out this action the roller is held by the lingers at the inner ends of the slots. After the belt is in proper position the pin is placed in en' gagement with the proper hole and then the hold this free end roller is moved toward the .outer ends of the slots-.togcoperate with said pinI 1n holding the free end of the belt to the buckle.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features lof our invention will be readily apparent..
We desire it to be understood that we may make such changes in the construction and in the combination several parts, provided that 'such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What we claim is i. A. belt buckle comprising a` plate havan inwardly extending pin carried by said plate adje nt one end thereof, slots in said flanges, a roller in said slots for coperating with the pin in holding the free end of the belt to the buckle, a plate pivoted to the first plate' for engaging the other end of the belt and a part carried by said second plate for directing the free end of the belt under the fastened end thereof.
and arrangement of the 2. A belt blickle comprising,- a plate having side flanges, a plato huvingit-s side ledges pivoted in Isaid flanges, said plate having teethfthereon projecting at right angles 5 thereto for gripping the end of the belt; and seid plate having an inclined part having its edge engaging the under face of the other i plate for acting as a guide to direct the free end of the belt under the fastened end, and means for holding` seid free end of the belt l0 to thel buckle.
In testimony whereof We affix our signatures.
EDWIN J, HAYDEN. EDWARD HAUsoTTER.
