To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. Bnrsnn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Brooklyn, Kings county, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to non-refillable bottles and in the drawing I have shown it applied to the type of bottle covered by my prior Patent No. 1,144,287, dated June 22, 1915, although it will be understood from the following description that it is also applicable to other non-refillable bottles of a different specific construction. The invention involves the use of two separated screens or sieves within the neck of the bottle between the outer guard and the valve. The purpose of the two screens is to prevent the possibility of floating a small particle around the guard through the neck of the bottle and lodging it between the valve and its seat. This would be very difficult to do in any'case but it might be possible by the use of a small piece of cork fastened to the end of a hair. With the two perforated screens having the perforations out of line and the space between the screens being invisible from the outside it would be impossible for anyone to thus float an article into the neck of the bottle and lodge it beneath the valve. Heretofore it has been found practically impossible to make use of a perforated screen beneath the outer guard in a non-refillable bottle for the reason that it has been found that as ordinarily constructed the liquid will not flow through the screen so as to discharge the contents of the bottle when desired. The small perforations seem to prevent the entrance of air to take the place of the discharged liquid and thus the vacuum created by a slight discharge will prevent further flow. After my experiments I have discovered how the screen can be arranged so that it will permit a free flow of the liquid outward and I have further found that by my arrangement I can use two screens without interfering in any way with the free discharge of the liquid. The novel features of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the drawing.
