WILLIAM H. WILSON, OF GYNTHIANA, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEAD-PROTECTORS FOR HORSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,820, dated June 11, 1872.
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
This invention relates to an improvement in devices for protecting the heads and faces of horses while they are being shipped from point to point in cars, 8m; and consists of a longitudinal curved strap, and a transverse Description of the Drawing.
Figure I is a view in perspective of the device in position upon the horses head Fig. II is a partial vertical longitudinal sectional view centrally through the device.
General Description.
In the accompanying drawing, A is the 1ongitudinal strap, curved at its upper end so as fit that portion of the horses head between and slightly in front of its ears. The strap A is provided with a slot, B, for the reception of the bum p or projection on the horses head slightly in front of the ears. 0 is the trans verse'strap, curved so as to fit the horses neck immediately back of the ears, and provided with strings, D, for securing it to the halter. E is the brow-band; F, the nose-strap; and G,
the throat-latch. The nose-strap F and throatlatch G are connected under the horses chin by a loop, H. The cushion I is built upon the straps A and O, and is stuffed with curled hair or any other suitable material. or bottom, J, is made to the cushion for the part over the slot B. The cushion I is nearly the shape of the letter T, the transverse and upright parts being curved-that is to say, it has the curved arms K K and the curved stem L. The arms K K and the stem L may be each six inches or more in length.- The strap A below the termination of the stem L forms a face-piece for the device.
Operation.
The device is placed upon the horses head, the arms K K fitting snugly over the horses neck immediately back of the ears, and the stem L passing between the ears and eyes down the face of the horse. The slot B receives the projection on the horses head slight ly in front of its ears. The device is secured to the halter by the strings D. The nosepiece, brow-band, and throat-latch, are operated in the usual manner.
Claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A head and face protectorfor horses, composed of the strap A, provided with the slot B, the strap 0, cushion I, brow-band E, nosepiece F, and throat-latch Gr, combined and 0p- A base
