Application led February 15, 1918. Serial No. 217,304.
T0 all whom t 'may concern: j
Be it known that I, PIERRE JAcoT Dns Corinne, a citizen ofthe Swiss Confederation, and residing at Bienne, Switzerland, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Toy, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in a toy representing in the embodiment herein described a human figure which has at least two detachable parts held to the body part by a locking device so constructed and arranged that the said detachable parts become automatically detached from the body part, as soon as the said looking device is caused to release them.
The drawing shows the human figure as a wooden soldier, Figure 1 being an elevation showing the inside locking device in broken lines, and Fig. 2 being a section along Hill in Fig. 1.
To the body part 2 which is placed on a base 1 are attached the removable arms 3, 3 and the removable head 4, which parts are held on the body part 2 `by a locking device in such a way that they are free to be moved. The upper portion of the body part 2 is made hollow providing a space 5, wherein is located a circular disk 6 having a -flanged rim.' The disk is carried by a rod 7 projecting from the front of the body part into the said space 5. A coiled spring 8 abutting with one end against a cover plate 9 closing the open space 5 on the rear of the body part, bearing with its other end against the said disk 6 tends to move said disk and rod 7 forward (i. c. downward, as seen in F/lg. 2). From each arm 3 and the head 4 projects a pin 10 `having a conical head 11 adapted to engage behind the flanged rim of the disk 6, so as to hold the arm or head in place on the body part. Each pin 10 is surrounded by a coiled spring 12, which bears against a washer 13 loose on the pin. In the detached position of either of the said arms 3, 3 or the head 4, the washer 13 is pressed by the spring 12 against a fixed collar 16 on the pin. For the insertion of the pins to attach the parts 3 and 4 to the body part, the latter is provided with recesses 15, in each of which is formed a shoulder 14. As the pin 10 is pushed in, the washer 13 striking the shoulder 14 is arrested, compressing the spring 12, whereas the conical head 11 engages behind the flanged rim of the disk 6 plate 9 on the rear side 'heads snap in place.
parts from the body part upon thereon as clearly shown on the left in Fig. 2. The

pins 10 of the detachable parts 3 and 4 are simultaneously inserted into the body part, the disk 6 being ypressed toward the cover of the `body part by the pins 10, until the The disk 6 being pressed forward, z'. c. toward the front side of the body part 2, by its spring 8 securely holds the parts 3 and 4 in place, mitting them to turn freely about their pins 10 acting as pivots.
The rod 7 carrying the locking disk 6 is provided on its end projecting from the front of the body part with a push button 17, which in'this case is formed as a target. If nowk a projectile hits the latter thereby moving the rod 7 inward, locking disk will release the conical heads 11 on the pins 10, and the springs 12 surrounding said pins being compressed, will fling the parts 3 and 4 outward away from the body part 2. Y
It is self-evident that the toy can assume any other shape than the one shown and that it may be provided with any number ofdetachable members controlled either by a common locking device or each by its'own locking device.
I claim as my invention:
1. A toy comprising a body part and one or more detachable parts, a locking device for holding said detachable parts in place on the said body part, and means for releasing said locking device.
2. In a toy as specilied in claiml means for automatically separating the detachable the release of the conical heads l10n thev said locking device.
3. A toy having with a hollow space, detachable parts, pins having conical heads and adapted to project into the hollow space in said body part, a locking means in said hollow space adapted to engage the conical heads on the said pins, an outwardly projecting movable rod carrying the said locking means, and a spring for normally holding said locking means in engagement with the conical heads on the said pins, the said locking means being displaced movement of the said rod to release the said conical heads. Y
4. In 'a toy as specified in claim 3 springs acting on the said detachable parts so as to automatically separate them from the said while per-v a body part provided Y by a corresponding Y the hollow space of the locking inea-ns upons the release of the said conical heads. c
'5. A toy comprising a body part provided with a hollow space, detachable parts, pins with conical heads thereon provided in said detachable parts and adapted to project into said body part, a flanged locking disk within the said hollow space adapted to engage withits flange the conical heads on the said pins, an outwardly projecting rod carrying said locking disk and provided onk its outer end with a push button, a spring for holding said locking Copies of this patent may be obtained forl five cents each, by Washington, D. disk in engagement with the conical heads on said pins, and nieans acting upon the release of the said conicals heads through a pressure exerted on the said push button to automatically separate the detachable parts from the said body part.
In testimony-whereof, I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
