HANS J'. DREWS, 0F SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
FIREARM-PROJECTOR.
To all whom t may concern? Be it known that I, HANS J. DREWS, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Firearm-Projectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in fire arm projectors wherein a projecting means operates in conjunction with releasing means for projecting a fire arm from a concealed to an operative position into the hand of the operator.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide an improved device of the character described which may be easily and quickly operated.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for comfortably carrying weapons in a. position where they may be available for instant use.
I accomplish these and other objects by the improved means disclosed in the drawings forming a part of the present specification wherein like characters of reference are used to designate similar parts through the said specification and drawings, and in which- Figure 1 is a broken view disclosing the device attached to the fore arm of an operator and in an operative position;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged broken view of the device in a receded or inoperative position;
Fig. 3 is a view of the guide removed from the housing; and
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of the device taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 2 in the direction indicated.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 is used to designate a suitable housing open at the bottom thereof and provided with suitable straps 2 by means of which the housing may be secured to the fore arm of a person as disclosed in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and within the coat sleeve of said person.
Parallel guides 3 are mounted within the housing, and a lire-arm holder, comprising sleeves 4 anda longitudinal member 6 connected to said sleeves 4, is slidably mounted upon said guides 3, the longitudinal member 6 projecting through the slot in the lower edge of the housing 1.
A lug 7, projecting from the end of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led April 14,
Patented Sept. 2, 1919.
1919. Serial No. 291,792.
is arranged, when the holder is in a receded or moperatlve position, to enter an aperture 9 within a yoke 11 mounted upon the rear ends of the guides 3, said yoke 11 being also provided with a second aperture 12 arranged at right angles to the aperture 9 and slightly intersecting the same as disclosed in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. A releasing latch, comprising a Hat spring 14 and a pin 16 mounted within the second aperture 12 of the yoke 11, is mounted upon said yoke 11 and provided with an enlarged button 17 which, being on the inner end of the housing 1, is arranged adjacent the elbow of the person, the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully set forth.
The pin 16 is provided with an enlarged portion 21 which is arranged to normally engage the recess 8 within the lug 7 on the holder and to thereby retain said holder in a receded or inoperative position as disclosed in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and against the tension of suitable springs 22, said springs being arranged to normally move the sleeves 4 into a position adjacent the hand of the arm to which the device is secured, as disclosed in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
In operation, the tire arm 8 is first secured to the holder 6 by means of the clamp 7 and the said fire arm and the holder 6 are then moved, against the tension of the spring 22, into a receded or inoperative and concealed position within the coat sleeve of the person until the lug 7 enters the aperture 9 within the yoke 11, the button 17 being meanwhile depressed to remove the enlarged portion 21 of the pin 16 from the path of said lug 7. When the lug 7 is in position, the button 17 is released thereby permitting the tension of the Hat spring 14 to move the enlarged portion 21 of the pin 16 into the recess 8 of the lug 7 thereby pref venting said lug from being removed from the aperture 9 by the tension of the springs 22. j i l j When the use of the fire arm 8" is required the operator depressesthe releasing latch by pressing the button 17 between the elbow and the person of the operator, the elbow being normally in that position.
This movement will move the enlarged portion 21 of the in 16 away from the recess 8 in the lug and thereby permit the tension of the springs 22 to actuate the sleeves 4 and the holder 6 to instantly project the ire arm 8 into a position adjacent the hand of the arm on which the device is mounted as disclosed in Fig. l of the drawings.
The weapon may be then easily grasped and operated by the hand of the operator.
It is evident from the foregoing that I have provided a new and improved device for instantly projecting a fire arm or the like from a concealed to an operative position.
The details of construction are so susceptible to variation that I do not wish to confine myself to the precise construction disclosed herein but rather to avail myself of any modification that may fall properly within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A re arm projector comprising guides; means for securing the guides to the arm of a person; means for slidably mounting a fire arm on the guides; and means for projectinor the slidable means and fire arm mounted thereon to a position adjacent the hand of the arm to which the device is secured.
2. A fire arm projector comprising guides; means for slidably mounting a fire arm on the guides; means for normally projecting the slidable means and fire arm to a position adjacent the hand of the arm on which the device is secured; and means for releasing the projecting means to project the fire arm, said means also being adapted to lock the projecting means in an inoperative position.
3. The combination with a fire arm of guides arranged to be mounted upon the fore arm of a person; means for slidably mounting said re arm upon said guides; means for normally projectin the slidable means upon the guides to position said fire arm adjacent the hand of the arm upon which the device is mounted; and a releasing latch arranged to normally retain the ire arm and projecting means therefor in a receded position.
4;. A lire arm projector comprisinof a re arm holder slidably mounted upon t e arm of a person; means for normally projecting the holder and fire arm thereon to a position adjacent the hand of the arm upon which the device is mounted; and a releasing latch arranged to retain the fire arm and holder in a receded position.
5. A fire arm projector comprising a housing arranged to be secured to the arm of a person, and within the coat sleeve thereon; guides mounted within the housing; a fire arm holder slidably mounted upon the guides; means for normally projecting the holder and ire arm thereon to a position adjacent the hand of the arm on which the device is mounted; and a releasing latch arranged to retain the holder in a receded position within the coat sleeve.
6. A fire arm projector comprising a housing arranged to be secured to the fore arm of a person and within the coat sleeve thereon, the inner end of the said housing projecting to a point adjacent the elbow of the person; guides mounted within the housing; a fire arm holder slidably mounted upon the guides; means for normally projecting the holder and a fire arm thereon into a position adjacent the hand of the arm upon which the device is mounted; and a releasing latch arranged on the inner end of the housing and arranged to retain the holder Within the sleeve and to release said holder when said latch is pressed between said fore arm and the body of the person whereby the vprojecting means may be released to project the holder and fire arm thereon beyond the coat sleeve and adjacent the hand of the person.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my signature.
HANS J. DREWS.
