PATENT OEEIoE.
WILLIAM N. HEMENWAY, OF PEGATONIOA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR MOVING BUILDINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,766, dated June 11, 1872.
- be simple in construction, convenient in use,
and effective in operation, enabling a building to be moved or turned without cramping or having any tendency to spread; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the truck, as hereinafter more fully described.
A are two short rollers placed end to end upon a shaft, B, which is attached to the centers of the lower sides of the three longitudinal bars 0 D E. The lower sides of the bars 0 D E are beveled or inclined toward their ends, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, to prevent them from catching upon the ground. The three bars 0 D E are connected at their ends by cross-bars G F, and at their center by the cross-bar H. The central cross-bar H is made thicker at its middle part, and to its center is attached a king-bolt or pivot, I, to receive the swinging bar or bolster J, upon which the building rests while being moved, and to which are attached two or more upwardly-projecting spikes, K, to prevent the said bar or bolster J from turning or getting out of place beneath the building. the end parts of the bolster J, directly above the cross-bars F G, are pivoted the ends of the bars or straps L, which lie along the upper sides of the cross-bars F G, to which their outer ends are adjustably' connected by pins M, to rigidly connect the bolster to the framework of the truck when. adjusted. This construction enables the trucks to be adjusted with respect to the direction in which the building is to be moved, or to change said direction without disturbing the connection between the bolster J and said building.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- An improved truck for moving buildings, consisting of the two rollers A, shaft B, three longitudinal bars, 0 D E, the end cross-bars F G, the central cross-bar H, king-bolt or pivot I, bolster J, spikes K, pivotedbars or straps L, and pins M, said parts being being constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
