Description
W. W. HENMAN.
Dumping-Piatforms.
N0,138,400. Patented Aprii 29. 1873 AM. PHOTO-LITIIOGMPH/C ca w (omms 1*)?005531 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. HINMAN, OF ELKHART, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF PART INTER- EST TO SAMUEL B. HUNTER AND JOHN GIBBS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DUMPING-PLATFORMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,400, dated April 29, 1873; application filed March 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. HINMAN, of Elkhart,.in the county of Logan and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dumping-Platform; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making apart of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a dumpingplatform, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referrin g to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, Fig. 2 a plan view, and Fig. 3 a transversevertical section of my invention.
A represents a platform with trap-door B, through which the grain or corn is to be emptied. Under the platform and in suitable bearings is placed a shaft or roller, (l, provided at one end with a spoke-wheel, D, part of which projects up through an opening in the platform. The shaft 0 is by cords or chains a aeonnected with the lower ends of two bars, E E, which move in cases G G placed vertically or slightly inclined from the platform A downward, the upper ends of said cases passing through openings made for that purpose in the platform, and are flush with the upper surface thereof. 0n the upper ends of the sliding bars E E is secured a cross-bar, H, which rests upon the platform A when the sliding bars are pushed down.
The wagon is backed up with the rear end over the trap-door B, and the hind wheels locked by chains b b which are attached to the platform. By now turning the wheel D the bars or columns E E with top cross-bar H rise and raise the front end of the wagon so as to dump the load from the rear end through the trap-door, which is held open by a hook, d. Inside of the cases G G friction-rollers may be arranged for the bars E E to bear against in their up and down movement. By reversing the wheel D the weight of the wagon forces the columns down again.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a platform, A, having trap-door B, of the cases G G, sliding bars E E with cross-bar H, cords or chains 00 a,
shaft 0, and wheel D, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of March, 1873. I
' WILLIAM W. HINMAN. Witnesses:
J. J. HAAS,
M. E. GRISWOLD.
