Be it known that I, AXEL ANDERSON, citizen of the United States, resident of St. Paul, county of Ramsey, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new-andvuseful Improvements in kDraft-Rigging, of which the following is a Specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a draftA connection by meansr ofwhich the pull will be transmitted ldirectly to the work `without passing through the axle.
A further object is to provide aA draft connection which will relieve the frame of the machine from the strainto which it is usually subjected in pulling the load.
A further object is to provide a draft connection which'will be simple and economical in construction and vvery strong and durable.
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming 2.5 part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of a draft rigging embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partially in section,of the same.
- In the drawing, 2 represents the forward axle, having carrying wheels 3. This axle has bearings in a transverse I-beam 4. A
casting 5 in the form of a bolster has an upper bracket 6 which embraces the upper portion of the I-beam and extends under the axle and is spaced from the upper bracket to receive the rear end of the draft tongue 8 through which and said brackets a pin 9 is inserted. Upon the bolster 5 a channel bar 10 is arranged, having upwardly turned ends 11 which are secured to the frame 12.
A channel bar 13 extends across lthe channel bar 10 and has an upwardly turned portion secured to the frame 12 and a ring 14, T-shaped in cross section, is secured to the channel bar 13 and braces 15 and 16 connect the channel'bar 13 with the frame 12. Bearings 17 in the form of segments of circles are mounted on the channell 4 and are free to slide on theT-ring 14 as the axle and bolster are oscillated tosteer' the machine. A king-bolt 18 p asses down through the channel bar 10 and has a head at its lower end bearing on the` bracket 7, and a coiled spring 19v between 'a washer 20 at the upper end of said pin and the bottom of the channel bar 13. This spring operates to hold the Specification of Letters Patent.

A steering rigging 27 of ,ordina-ry, construction is mounted ony the draft pole and is operated by a steering post 28 having a wheelf29on-theframe of the machine. It will be noted that the kingbolt is independent of the Aaxle and that the draft is applied directly to this bolt without subjecting the axle or the frame ofthe machine to any strain.
In various ways the details of construc-A tion herein shown andA described may be modified and still-be within the scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination, with a frame having a forward axle and carrying wheels anda ybolster mounted on said axle, a king-bolt pivotally connecting said frame and bolster, a draft tongue connected to said bolster, a draft connection for the lower end of said king-bolt, the pull being transmitted from said tongue through said king-bolt to said draft connection independently of said axle.
2. The combination, with a frame, an axle and carrying wheels therefor and a bolster mounted on said axle, of a king-bolt pivvotally connecting said frame and bolster independently of said axle, a draft connection for said king-bolt, and a draft tongue having a direct connection through said bolster with said king-bolt. .Y e
3. The combination, with a forward axle havingV carrying wheels, of a transverse beam wherein said axle is mounted, a bolster having an upper and a lower bracket arranged to Strad'dlevsaid axle and beam, a draft tongue connected to, said` brackets, a frame having bearings on said bolster, a
king-bolt passing through said bolster and pivotally connecting it with said frame, and a direct draft connection for said king-bolt.
4; The combination, with an axle having carrying wheels, of a bolster mounted thereets arranged one above another and straddling said axle, a draft tongue connected to the forward portion of said brackets, a
frame having bearings on said bolster, a
king-bolt mounted in said frame and having a comparatively long bearing surface in said bolster in the rear of said axle, the pull of said draft tongueV on said bolster being transmitted through said brackets to said king-bolt independently of saidaxle, and draft connections for the lower portion of said king-bolt.
5. The combination, with a forward axle and carrying wheels and a bolster mounted thereon, of a frame 'supported by said bolster, a king-bolt pivotally connecting said frameA and said bolster, means having a draft connection with said bolster, a draft connection for said king-bolt, the draft being applied directly through said bolster to said kingbolt.
6. The combination, with an axle and carrying wheels, of a bolster mounted thereon, a frame, a channel bar secured at its ends tosaid frame and its middle portion having a bearing on said bolster, a second channel bar extending transversely of said first named bar and secured to-said frame, segment rings mounted on said bolster and bars to rotate one within the other, a king-bolt passing down through said channel bars and bolster, a spring interposed between the upper end of saidy kingbolt and said channel bars, and a draft connection for the lower portion of said king-bolt.
7. The combination, with an axle and carrying wheels and a bolster, of a frame, a king-bolt pivotally connecting said `frame with said bolster in the rear of said axle, the lower end of said bolt depending below the level of said axle, and a draft connection for said king-bolt.
8. The combination, with an axle and carrying wheels, of a frame, a king bolt for said frame and axle, a draft tongue having a direct connection with said king bolt and draft connections having a direct connection through'said king bolt with said draft tongue. e
