. ment in Oil-Cups, of which the following is a specification. v
My invention is an improvement in oil cups, and has for its object to provide a4 device of the character specified, especially adapted vfor jewelers use, wherein the receptacle for the oil is supported in a suitable Ycasing having a'cover for the receptacle hinged to the casing, and carrying a holder forthe oiler, the cover being ,normally spring-pressed into fopen position, and being connected to mechanism controlled by the insertionA of the oiler in the holder for closing the coverand holdingV said cover',

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved oiler in open position. y f
Fig. 2 is a vertical section with the oiler open.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with they oiler closed.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the moving parts of the oiler removed. n
In the present embodiment of the invention a suitable base 1 is provided of woodor' like material, having in its lower end a conical or tapering recess 2, and in its upper end a cylindrical recess 3. The recess 3 is -covered by a disk or plate 4, having `a central opening, in which is arranged an oil cup 5,
in the form of a disk of suitable material,v
as, for instance, glass, having at its center a depression 6 for receiving the oil.
The plate or disk 4 has an angular bar 7 connected therewith, the said bar consisting of a vertical portion extending downwardly into the recess, and a horizontal portion extending toward the center of the recess, and this horizontal portion is connected by a yoke-shaped member consisting of a body 8 and arms 9 with the opposite sides of the under face of the disk at points 90 removed from the connection of the bar 7. These arms `9 at their junction with the disk 4 extend forwardly, as indicated at 10, and then downwardly alongside each other, as indicated at 12, and an elbow lever is pivoted between the depending portions 12 at the junction of the-arms 13 and 14 of the elbow lever. The arm 13 extends rearwardly ySpecification of Letters Patent.

the lever downwardly,
lid has a rearwardly extending lug 20, which isfconnected by a link 21 with the slot 'of the portion 16 of thejelbowlever. This link passes downwardly throughl anopening in theldisk 4,V and the peripheral surface of the ina cylindrical holder 23 Awhichis mounted at the'front of the base 1, in a vertical opening 24 in the base.` The upper end of this holderis funnel-shaped, yasindicat'ed at 25,
andthe said holder is adapted to receive the oiler indicated at 26. This oiler has a tapering portion 27 intermediate its ends, at such a point in the length of the oiler, that when the oiler is inserted in the holder, with the ferrule 28 thereof in engagement with the tapering top of the holder the tapering portion 27 of the oiler will engage the wheel 17, and will swing the elbow lever 13-14 in a direction to move thefrear end of the arm 13 upwardly. A coil spring 29 is connected with the arm 13, the said spring acting norof the arm 13 One portion of this spring is held between a plate 29a and the oil cup 5, and the other portion engages the arm of the lever.
In operation, when the parts are in the position of'Fig. 3, the tapering portion 27 of the oiler will engage the wheel 17 swinging the elbow lever 13-14 in a direction to move the rear end ofthe arm 13 of the lever upwardly to close the cover 18. When the oiler is withdrawn, the spring'29 immediately throws the rear end of the arm 13 of thus opening the mally to force the rear end Patented Sept. 3, `1918.
