SAW HANDLE. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 25.1937- MAX RUTH, OFVJERSEY cITY, NEW JERSEY.
SAW-HANDLE.
Application filed June 25, 1917. Serial No. 176,707.
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, MAX RUTH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of J ersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Saw-Handle, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to saws and deals more particularly with an adjustable handle whereby the handle can be set at ninety degrees to the plane of the blade or in the same plane with the latter.
The invention has for its general objects to improve the construction of handles of this character so as to be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and e'llicient in use, and so designed as to be easily and quickly adjusted.
A more specific object of the invention is the provision of a novel form of hinge between the handle and the plate or leaf to which the blade is riveted, such hinge having yieldingly connected members for erl'nitting the interengaging of clutch teeth on the eyes of the hinge, the pintle of the hinge being in the form of a bolt which is tightened to cause the teeth to be firmly interlocked.
With such objects in view, and others,
which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be set forth with particularity in the following description and claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates one embodiment of the invention and wherein similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views,
Figure l is a perspective view of the saw avith the handle ad usted to a position at right-angles to the plane of the blade;
Fig. 2 is a plan view with a portion of thehandle broken away to of construction; and
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, A designates an ordinary saw blade and B the handle attached to the blade. This handle comprises a base plate or attachingsection 1, a hinge 2 and a handle section 3. The section 1 is fastened by rivets a to the blade and it is formed with a central eye or apertured ear 5. The handle section 3 is composed of illustrate the details Specification of Letters latent.

a grip member 6 and yieldingly connected members 7 which terminate in apertured eyes 8 disposed at opposite sides of the central hinge eye 5. A bolt 9 having a win pintle and a clamping means for causing the eyes to rigidly engage each other. To insure a positive engagement of the eyes they are provided with interlocking teeth 11 on their meeting faces. The members 7 normally spring apart so that the teeth 11 will have yielding engagement for parts yieldingly together. Before the handle is ad usted the wing nut 10 is slightly the handle is ad usted to the right position the wing nut 10 is again tightened.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and method of operation will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have changes within silient and set in the channel of the handle, said side members being provided with eyes alining with the eye on the blade, a bolt passing through the eyes for connecting the handle with the blade, and interengaging teeth between the eyes for holding the the members, a bolt passing through the eyes handle in the plane oi the blade or at an on the blade and the members, and means for 10 angle thereto. clamping the eyes together to hold the 2. The combination of a saw blade having handle in different positions of adjustment. 5 an eye, a handle formed With a channel, MAY RUTH spaced members projecting from the handle i w resilient connecting means located in the fitness: channel for uniting the members, eyes on JOHN BRUNTON.
