Description
A. 1. SCHEMMER.
COMBINATION TOOL.
APPLICATION m'so 001.24. I911.-
' 1,138,153. Patented May 4, 1915.
WITNESSES AUGUST J. SCHEIYIJIIER, 0F SANDUSKY, OHIO.
COMBINATION-TOOL.
Application filed October 24, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST J .Scnnmamn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a class of tools, and more particularly to that class of tools which are commonly known as combination tools.
An object of my invention is to provide a tool wherein is embodied several other forms of tools whereby said tool may be used as either of the embodied tools.
Another object of my invention is to provide a tool which shall be easy and simple to construct and one which is so constructed as to assure its durability.
With the foregoing and other objects in view my invention relates to such tools or construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved combination tool. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is the side elevation of one of the operating members. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary. detail view of one of the operating jaws. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of an operating member.
In the drawings I have shown a center operating member, one which has the jaw 2 formed at one end thereof, and is provided with'the extension 3 intermediate its ends.
At each side of the extension 3 are formed the offset portions 4 which serve a purpose that will be hereinafter fully described. The other operating members of my device are shown at 5 and 6. They have the jaw members 7, 7', formed at one end thereof, the only difference between the jaw members is that the jaw 7 which is formed upon the member 6 is preferably made flat in cross section while the jaw 7 which is formed upon the member 5 is preferably Specification of Letters Patent.

made circular in cross-section. The members 5 and 6 are provided intermediate their ends with the cutout portions 7", 7" and are adapted to be joined to the offset portions which are formed upon the member 1 through the medium of a pin 8. I desire it to be understood that I may use any other form of pivotal means instead of the pin 8, the same being shown merely to illustrate my invention. Each of the members 5, 6, and l have the cutout portions 9 formed therein which, when the said members are pivoted together are adapted to register. These cutout portions 9 are adapted to be out slanting whereby, when a section of wire or other material is inserted therein and the members move in a predetermined direction, the wire will be cut as will be clearly shown in Fig. 2. I may form upon the ends of the members 5 and 6 a screw driver as shown at 10 and a tack puller as shown at 11.
It will be readily seen that when the members 1, 5, and 6 are pivoted together by means of the pin 8, the tool will embody flat pliers as is shown at 13, round-jawed pliers as shown at 14:, a wire cutting attachment as shown at 9, a screw-driver as shown at 10, and a tack puller as shown at 11.
It is thought from the foregoing that the advantages and novel features of this device will be appreciated. I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in constructions without departing from the spirit of my invention provided such changes fall within the scope of the subjoined claim.
aving thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A tool of the plier type comprising a cenjaw and with a joint portion positioned being through the joint portion of said memtween. the same and reduced and fitting bers to pivotally mount the same for indeagainst one side face of the jointvportion of pendent pivotal movement. I said central member with its handle [10- AUGUST J. SCHEMLIER.
