JOHN H. RHAMY, OF FINDLEY, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLACKSMITl- IS BUTTERISES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,708, dated June 11, 1872.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. RHAMY, of Findley, in the county of Hancock and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Blacksmiths Butterises; and I hereby declare the follow-in g to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which the figure is a view in perspective.
This invention relates to an improvement in blacksmiths butterises 5 and consists of a comp ound lever composed of three simple levers, one of which is provided with a steel paringknife and another with an anvil-block so arranged that, when the device is Operated, a projection beyond the anvil-block on one of the levers rests against thehorses hoof, while 'the steel paring-knife on another lever, ap-
proaching the anvil-block, pares OH' the hoof and cuts oi the nails in a perfectly easy manner by reason of the increased leverage resulting from the use of the compound lever.
In the drawing, Ais the simple lever, provided with the anvil-block B. C is the simple lever, provided with the steel paring-knife D, and E is the simple lever, connected, by loops or hangers F and G, to the levers A and C.
In operation the point H ofthe lever A rests against the horses hoof, and the paring-knife D, being forced by the power applied to the levers A and E, approaches -the anvil-block B and pares off the horses hoof, and also cuts oft` the nails in the hooi', thereby performing the double office of butteris and pinchers. A
thumb-screw, I, in the lever A, striking again st the upper edge of the lever C, is used to regulate the latter, so as to prevent the blade of the paring-knife D from striking the face of yhangers F and G, constructed and Operating substantially as described, for the purposes hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing improvement, as above described, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of February, 1872.
