To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOVERN V. WISE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing- Boards, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ironing boards, and has for its principal object to provide an ironing board of simple construction, which may be conveniently folded for storage and is easily set up for use.

Anotherobject of the invention is to provide an ironing board of said character, which will be made firm when being set up in operative position by simply tightening a single thumb screw.

With the above and other objects in view as will be readily understood, theinvention will be hereinafter fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be distinctly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of an ironing board constructed in accordance with my invention,

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the usual flat elongated member upon which the ironing is done. To the underside of said member, at its rear end, is fixed a pair of bearing blocks 2, between which is pivoted by means of a bolt 3, a single inclined supporting leg t, the lower end of which is adapted to rest uponthe floor. A pair of upright legs 5, are connected at their upper ends by a cross piece'6, while. their lower ends are rigidly heldtogether by a bar 7. These upright legs are more firmly joined together by means of an intermediate cross rod 8, which passes through an opening in the inclined leg 4:, and serves as a pivot for i Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented 5 V the flat elongated member 1, andareadapted to prevent the upright legs going beyond the vertloal position in one direction, while a pair of suitable chains 10, which connect the inclined leg 1 to the lower portions of the upright legs 5, prevent the spreading of the inclined leg with relation to the upright legs under the ironing pressure.

For firmly supporting the forward end of the flat elongated member 1, a pair of braces 11, are pivotally connected to the inclined leg 4 at 12, and their other or upperv ends carry a bolt 13 having a thumb nut 14:. The bolt 13 passes through a longitudinal slot 15 of a guide 16, which is fixed to the under side of the elongated member 1. When the ironing board is set up in operative position, as shown in Fig. 1, the tightening of the single thumb nut 14 will bind the braces to the guide and hold all the parts rigid. By simply loosening the thumb nut, the inclined leg 4 may be folded against the flat elongated member 1 as the bolt 13 slides in 8 and also be folded against said member.

An ironing board constructed as disclosed' is stable when in use and may be easily and quickly folded for storage. It will be under stood that slight changes may be made in the design and arrangement of the different parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having fully described my invention what I claim is:

1. In an ironing board, the combination of a fiat member, an inclined leg pivoted to the flat member, an upright leg pivoted to the inclined leg, a block fixed to the flat member to prevent the upright leg moving beyond the vertical position, a chain connecting the upright leg to the inclined leg to prevent the spreading of the inclined leg with relation to the upright leg, a brace pivoted to the inclined leg, a guide on the .flat member, and a thumb screw slidably connecting the brace to the guide, substantially as described.

2. In an ironing board, the combination of a flat member, an inclined leg pivoted to the flat member, a pair of upright legs, the

upright legs being connected by an intermediate cross rod, the cross rod pivotally connecting the upright legs to the inclined leg, means for preventing the upright legs moving beyond the vertical position with clined leg with relation to the upright legs,

through said braces and the slot, and a thumb nut on the bolt for binding the braces to the guide whereby the ironing board Will be locked in operative position, substantially as described.
