Description
S. D. KIN G.
Improvement in Butter-Pails.
Nil-127,612. Patent'edjune 4,1872.
WITNESSES. I'NVENTOR.
A @fdm, Wfiw KWZZZWWJG' UNITED ST TES SIDNEY D. KING, OF MIDDLETOWN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTER-FAILS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,612, dated June 4, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDNEY D. KING, of Middletown, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Butter-Pails; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters I secured to the firkin on opposite sides at the top thereof. The ear 0 is provided with one,
and the ear 0 with two, inwardly-projecting tenons,d d which rest on the edge of the firkin. Over the tenons (1 projects a flange, c. A flange, 01*, projects outwardly from the ear 0, and has a recess, d cut therein, having a'hole, d pierced through the lower surface thereof. The cover B has two slots, h, cut in one side to correspond to the projections d, and one, h, cut in the opposite side to correspond to the projection 01. The lid is fitted to the firkin byinserting one side under the flange c, and letting the tenons d enter the slots h, and then letting down the other side of the lid until the tenon d and slot h coincide. I rep resents a pivoted button attached to the lid B. When the latter is arranged as above related, this button is turned over the tenon d and into the recess d thereby effectually preventing the lid from falling off. To secure the button, a leather thong, n, attached to the lid is passed through the hole d. F is a stop to said button, formed on the plate P, to which the button is pivoted.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The butter-firkin, having the ear 0 with tenon d, flexible key a, and recess d, the ear 0 with tenons (1 d and overlapping flange e, and the flush lid B slotted at h h, and furnished with the pivoted button I, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses. I
SIDNEY D. KING.
