SAND AND WATER HEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1918.
Application filed January 28, 1918. Serial No. 214,236.v
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDERS OLsoN, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sand and Water Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my invention is to provide, in a sand and water heater, improved means for mounting` water pipes in relation to a fire box.
Another object of my invention is to provide improved means for uniting a fire box with a shell on which sand may be readily heated.
Another object of my invention is to provide, in combination, improved means of heating water pipes Yand a sand heating shell. Y
Vith these and incidental objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, the` essential elements of which are hereinafter described with reference to the drawing which accompanies and forms a part of this specification.
In the drawing Figure l is a front view of 'my improved device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, with parts broken away, and Fig. 3 is a front view of one of the supporting arches. Y
I prefer to employ for supporting my im- Y proved sand and water heater a series of arches 1 having therein slotted apertures 2 through which pipes may be positioned, as shown in Figs. l and 2.
\ A cross brace 3 serves to strengthen the archand (lso provide means VforV placing grate bars 3', or any suitable type of grate, at the front end of the heater for carrying a fire, a smoke pipe t being provided at the upper back end of the heater.
A shell 5, preferably of sheet iron, having heads 6 and 7 associated therewith, provides means for retaining heat in the interior of the heater and also to support sand thrown thereon for the purpose of being heated.
It will be noted that the pipes 8 are placed in the slots of the arches so .that they drain from the upper center pipes to each end, so that by disconnecting the two outside ends of the pipes 9 and 10 the systemrmay be positively drained. i
Normally the pipe 9 would be connected to a hose for the convenient use of heated water, while the pipe 10 would be connected to a suitable source of water supply.
A pair of doors 11 and 12 provide access to the front of the heater where the fire box is located, and a damper 13 is provided for regulating the draft. i
IVith a construction of lthe kind shown and described, which is readily set up and which is strong and rigid, the arches being connected together when itis set up by the positioning of the pipes therein, itV being readily detached, a convenient and eiicient means for heating sand and water on out side construction work is provided.
vWhile I have described my invention and illustrated it in one particular design, I do not wish it understood that I limitfmyself to this construction, as it is evident that the application of the invention maybe varied in many ways within the scope of the following claims. Y
Claims: l
l. In a sand and water heater the combination of multiple arches having apertures therein forthe positioning of Water pipes, a series of water pipes positioned in said apertures and adapted to drain at each end when opened, a shell positioned over said series of arches, and a fire box positioned in said shell. Y
2. In a sand and water heater the combination of multiple arches having apertures therein for the position of water pipes, a series of water pipes positioned in said apertures andadaptedtol drain at each end when opened, a shell positioned over said serles or arches and a lire lbox positioned in said shell, said fire box comprising a gratel carried by two adjacent arches.
'3. In a sand and water heater the co1nbicross bars carried by two of said arches to carry thereon bars constituting a knockdown grate and a shell positioned over.v said arches.
