To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Vromn H. .Nrcxnnson, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cotuit, in the county of Barnstable and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Cartridge for Cleaning Well-Strainers, of which the following is a ingte full clear, and exact descri tion.
My invention has for its 0 ect to provide a cartrid for cleaning'well strainers which may be owered in a driven well point or strainer while in the ground and 'be ex-, ploded to clean the strainer, which may have become clogged while in use.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification, in which the preferred form of the invention'is disclosed. In the drawings similar reference characters denote similar parts-in all the views, in

By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that a cartridge 10 is lowered in the well lining 11 to a position at the strainer 12, the cartridge 10 being constructed of a tube 13 through which a wire' 14 is disposed, the said wire 14 being insulated except at one position 15' from which leads a terminal 16 which forms a spark gap with the tube 13 which is constructed 0 trical conducting material. The ends of the tube 13 are closed by plugs have orifices 18 through which the wire 14 is disposed, the plugs 17 fitting snugly 9 around the wire and against the ends of the tube 13 to revent water from entering the tube and dhmagin he explosive 19 disosed within the tube. When the (plugs 17 have been blown out, as l 1 stated, an the strainer has been cleaned, it is possible to remove the tube 13 from the well by drawing upwardly on the wire 14, the we1ght 2O engaging the end of the tube 13, in a manner readily understood.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 6 of the drawings,'the explosive 22 1s contained in a paper tube 23 which is 'shellacked or otherwise coated to prevent the explosive within the tube from becoming damaged by the water in the well. The
ends of the paper tube 23 are-secured around brassend pieces 24 in which rubber packing 25 is disposed. The outer ends of the end pieces 24 have mner threads 26. An outer screw 27 on a plug 28 meshes with one of the inner threads 26 to hold the'packing 25 in position,-the plug 28 and the said'pack ing 25 having orifices'29 and 30 respectively, through which a wire 31 is secured to the other packing 25,.the said other packing 25 being held in position by a screw member 32 which meshes with the inner thread 33 in the said brass end member 24.
It will be understood that when this form of the invention is used, the cartridge may be lowered in the well by the wire'31 and may be fired by passing-a current through the wire 31, the said current jumping the gap to the terminal 35 and passing through 36 is employed in the lower end of which a weight 37 is disposed, the explosive 38 being disposed in the tube 36 above the weight.
