Description

F. M. BENWAY.
FRUIT MARKER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 3. 1917.
Patented July 23, 1918.
FM.Be77 W0 M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDRICK MONROE BENWAY, OF MONTPELIEB, VERMONT, ASSIGNOR TO PARKER WIRE CHUSETTS.
FRUIT-MARKER.
Specification of Letters ratent. Patented July 23, 1918.
Application filed February 3, 1917. Serial No. 146,447.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDRICK M. BEN- wAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montpelier, in the county of Washingtonand State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in F ruit-Markers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the'art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in fruit markers or devices for holding tags giving price marks of fruits or other articles and consists of a simple and eflicient device of this nature havmg various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter full described, shown in the accompanying rawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated inthe accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a side view.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a wire bent to form a pyramidal shaped coil, said wire at the apex of the cone being bent to form a cylindrical coil upon edge, the folds of which are in vertical planes and, being near together, form clamping means for the receptlon of a card D. Said device being of the shape shown maybe conveniently placed over a pyramid of fruit or other articles for dlspla purposes in windows, etc.,and.-
held there y in proper position to display the card which is frictionally engaged be tween any two of the folds of the cylindrical portion of the holder. 7
It will be noted that byreason of the pyramidal shape of the convolutions the device frictionally engages the fruit or other spherically outlined object at different points, and with a plurality of convolutions so that the marker is held steadily upon the object without liability of being toppled over by the weight of the card.
What I claim to be new is A fruit marker made of a single piece of wire bent to form concentrically disposed convolutions of pyramidal shape and adapted to engage .frict-ionally with 21v pluralityof its convolutions a spherically outlined object, a ortion of the wire bent horizontally against the apex of the cone, thence vertically and formed into a horizontally dis osed coil the lower edges of which are sli tly above the top of the cone.
n testimony whereof I hereunto aflix' my signature in presence of two witnesses.
