Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFIFIOE,
ROBERT W. PBITTIE. OF TORONTO, ONTARIO. CANAD A.
COMPOSITION OF MATTER.
Patented July 23, 1918.
1 ,273,669 Specification of Letters Patent. No Drawing. Application filed November 27. 1916. Serial No. 138.779. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT W. PRITTIE, a subject of the King of England, residing at Toronto, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Composition of Matter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new composition of matter which is more particularly designed for use as a cosmetic or toilet fpreparation in massaging or treating the ace.
It is the object of this invention to produce a composition for this purpose which is beneficial to the skin and improves the complexion and also renders the same smooth, soft and liable, and reduces the formation of wrinkles.
The ingredients contained in this compo sition are all of vegetable origin, so that nothing of a metallic character enters into the composition which would be liable to aflect the texture of the skin. The preferred constituents in this composition consist of oil of olive kernels sometimes called virgin oil, oil of almond, oil of plantain sometimes called oil of chlorophyl, oil of lilac and oil of peach kernels. The oil of olive kernels is produced from the kernels in the stones of olives, the oil of almond from the kernels of almond nuts, the oil of plantain from the lantain weed, the oil'of lilac from the ower of that name and the oil of peach kernels from the kernels in peach stones in a manner common and well known in the chemical art.
These several ingredients are thoroughly mixed by an suitable means at a temperature above t at at which any one of these ingredients would be liable to congeal so as to cause a thorough intermingling of the same and produce a homogeneous mass in Which each ingredient is effectively com- .bined with the others.
Although the proportions of these ingredients in a given quantity or mass may be varied, satisfactory results have been obtained by mixing the same in the following proportions:
Oil of olive kernels eight pounds, oil of almond one pound, oil of plantain one ounce, oil of lilac "one and one-half ounces and oil of peach kernels one pound.
These ingredients when mixed under the conditions and in the proportions above described produce a cosmetlc or facial cream which when rubbed into the skin has the effect not only of reducing and avoiding Wrinkles but also rendering the same soft and pliable and giving the same a firm texture and healthy color.
All of these ingredients can be obtained at comparatively low cost and the same can also be compounded by simple means, there by effecting a considerable economy in the preparation of a cosmetic of this character as compared with those now on the market for the same purpose without in any way reducing the efficiency or beneficial eflects of the same.
The oil of gent which w each kernels acts as an astrinen applied to the face smoothens the Wrinkles. Oil of peach kernels alone would however be too severe on the skin and blister the same if too strong and the effect of the same is therefore modified by the presence of the oil of almonds which latter also serves to soften the skin and permit the latter to respond readily to the action of the oil of peach kernels. The oil of olive kernels forms the main body or vehicle of the composition and also serves as a lubricant of the skin so that the same may be easily and properly massaged for rendering the composition rapidly effective.
The oil of plantain operates chiefl to alla the sting or inflammation in t e skin w en the same has been sun burnt or exposed to the wind, and in conjunction with the softening effect of the oil of almonds and the astringent action of the oil of peach kernels operates to remove blackheads, freckles and certain forms of eczem Oil of plantain being of a greenish tinge v gives the entire composition that color. The oil of plantain is obtained by boiling twenty 'pounds of plantain weeds in five gallons of Water until the liquid has been reduced to one-half of a pint, after which the mass is pressed and yields a sticky or viscous fluid.-
10 I claim as my invention:
1. The heremdescribed, cosmetic, the ma:
of peach, kernels, oil of jor portion of which comprises oil of olive kernels, the remaining ingredients being oil almonds and 011 of plantain. 2. The hereindescribed cosmetic comprismg eight pounds of oil of olive kernels, one pound of oil of almonds, one pound-0f oil of peach plantain.
