PITCHER FOR CANS 0F CONDENSED MILK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patentcd July 23, 1918.
Application filed June 2, 1917. Serial No. 172,435.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, CURTIS C. FELTNER, a. citizen of the United States, and a resident of Oerro de Pasco, Peru, South America, have invented a new and Improved Pitcher for Cans of Condensed Milk, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
- y invention relates to a pitcher which An object of the invention is to provide a slmple, convenient, inexpensive and sanitary pitcher of the class described.
attain the aboveand other objects of my invention by. the structure conventionally disclosed in the accompanying drawings, wherein'similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pitcher;
hich the can is apertured to permit the discharge of the contents; ig. 3 is an elevation of the pitcher, partly 1n section, in the position when discharging the contents of the can to the pitcher nozzle; ig. 4 is a horizontal section on line H, Fig. 2, the can being removed; and
ig. 5 is a section on line 5-5, Fig. 2. Referring to the drawings, 6 is a pitcher of any suitable shape but of a size sufficient] large to accommodate easily therein a stan ard can for condensed milk through the top opening, for which a cover 7 is provided. The pitch edge thereof forming a continuaof the pitcher. This lip 9 forms a stop for a tongue 10 pivotally the spout, so that gravity normally tends to move the tongue against the lip when the pitcher is in the up-right position. When the pitcher is inclined or in position to discharge, as shown in Fig. 3,
gravity moves the tongue away from the lip toward the sectional cover 11 provided on the spout. This sectional cover hides the tongue within the spout and also keeps flies out therefrom.
The bottom 12 of the pitcher is at such a distance from the spout as to present the f a can 13 above the lip 9 when resting on the bottom 12. The tongue 10 carries a pin 14 which enters the side discharge aperture 15 formed in the can in proximity to the top, the can being placed in the pitcher so that the aperture leads to the forcing an empty can out of the pitcher.
The pin 14 on the tongue prevents the formation of a film at the discharge opening 15 which might interfere with the pouring out of the contents. It will also rupture any film that may be formed in the discharge opening after pouring out therethrough some of the contents.
While I have described the principle of operation, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the. appended claims:
claim:
1. A pitcher having a side spout and a cover and adapted to receive a can through the top opening of the pitcher. so that the upper part of the part "of the spout, yielding means within the pitcher for engaging the can and maintaimng the can in contact with the pitcher at the spout, a gravitationally-operable member within the the can in the spout an upright position, for the spout limitin gravitationally-opera 1e member from the can when the pitcher is in a position to discharge, the bottom of said pitcher having when the pitcher 1s 1n and a sectional cover can is above the lower' spout adapted to enga e the movement of the a central apertu moval of a can the top opening.
2. A pitcher that the upper part thereof lower part of the spo gravitationally spout, a lip at adapted. to
the lower part of re for facilitating the refrom the pitcher through receive a can so is above the ut Within the pitcher, a operable tongue Within the the spout with the pltcher at the spout.
