Description

A. J. NORTHCRAFT.
TYPE WRITERS CABINET.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 4| I9l8.
Patented July 23, 1918.
AMBRO J. NORTHCRAFT, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
TYPE-WRITERS CABINET.
Application filed March 4, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMBRO J. Noam-1cm m, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Type-\Vriters Cabinets, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in typewriter-s cabinets and especially relates to a device for typewriters use, which is capable of holding the necessary supplies for the typist in position so as to have them readily accessible for use.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my in vention with the marker or liner not in a position for use.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the sam with the marker in a position for use.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrow. In this view a note book is shown applied to the stand or cabinet.
Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the clamp, by means of which the marker is adjusted and held in the desired position, and
Fig. 5 is a detailed perspective view of the clamp which carries the marker.
Referring to the drawings, 6 indicates the base, which is preferably pressed out of sheet metal and is of such size as to give the stand or cabinet a staple support.
The base 6 is provided with a front flange 7 and rear flange 8. Secured to the front flange 7 by means of rivets 9 are a series of strips 10, the lower ends of which are secured to the flange 7 and the upper ends are secured to a transversely disposed connecting strip 11, which has projecting ends 12 and 13.
The strips 10 are spaced apart and are formed of any suitable material, preferably light sheet metal, and are disposed at an inclined position as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3.
Secured to the flange 8 are strips 1 1 and 15, the lower ends of which are secured to the flange 8 by means of rivets 16, and the upper ends being secured to the strips 10 by means of rivets 17 It will be observed from the drawings that the strips 14 and 15 are secured to the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1918.
Serial No. 220,237.
strips 10 below the transverse strip 11 in order to give the front strips 10 the desired inclination.
The strips 1 1 are provided at their upper ends with hooks 18 by means of which, if desired, the cabinet or stand may be supported.
Secured to the strips 10 is a transverse strip 19 which parallels the strip 11 and is also provided with projecting ends 20 and 21.
22 indicates spring clamps which are secured to the strips 10 below the transverse strip 19, and 23 indicates spring clamps which are secured to the strips 10 above the strip 19. These spring clamps 22 and 23 are for the purpose of securing or holding envelops and stationery of the different kinds desired, in view of the typist and in a position to make them readily accessible.
Secured to one of the strips 10 is a pencil or pen holder 24. Secured to the extended portions 13 and 21 of the strips 11 and 19 is a vertical rod 25. Mounted on the rod 25 is a carrier 26 to which is pivotally secured the marker 27. The marker 27 is pivotally secured at one end in an eye 28 of the carrier, and when the same is in use it is adapted to swing down in a horizontal position as illustrated in Fig. 2, and rest in the fork 29 of the carrier. 1
The carrier 26 is made of resilient spring metal and is provided with integrally formed arms 30 and 31 which are provided with elongated openings 32 in which the rod 25 is mounted.
The arms 30 and 31 are carried by elastic portions 33.
Formed in the body of the carrier in line with the elongated openings 32 is an opening in which the rod 25 is mounted. In order to elevate and lower the carrier and consequently adjust the marker 27 it is only necessary to apply pressure to the portions 33, thus releasing the biting action of the arms 30 and 31 on the rod 25.
Secured to one of the strips 10 is an elastic hook 35 for holding paper, note books and the like, and pivotally mounted on the trans verse strip 11 is a pivoted loop 36 for holding the leaves back of a note book, etc.-the operation of the hook 35 and the loop 36 being illustrated in Fig. 3. 38 indicates an adjustable spring clamp which may be used for the purpose of securing the lower end of a sheet of paper or notebook.
the Various supplies required by the typist or'operator as needed. 7
From the foregoing description it is to be observed that I have constructed a stand or cabinet for typewriters use which may be cheaply constructed, capable of holding the various supplies needed ,'and in position and accessible for use as desired.
The device is designed to be used in front ofthe operator, whether typewriter; or typesetter or bookkeeper, thus obviating the ne cessity of the operator of turning from side to side in order to see the work or reach the supplies. 7
Having full described my invention,
,what I claim is:
1. A stand for typewriters and the like, formed of open or skeleton construction and substantially A-shaped in end elevation, a base having a solid bottom and provided with upper projecting flanges, spaced strips Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,
2. A stand for typewriters and the like, formed of open or skeleton construction and substantially A-shaped in end elevation, a
base having a solid bottom and provided with upper projecting flanges, spaced strips having their lower ends secured to the flanges projecting upwardly andinclined, spring clamps carried by certain of the said strips, transverse strips secured to certain of the first mentioned strips and having projecting ends, a guide. trod secured to the projecting ends, a spring hook mounted to overlie the upper end of the cabinet, a pivoted loop mounted on the upper end thereof, and an adjustable marking device carried by said guide rod.
3. A stand for typewriters and the like, formed of open or skeleton construction and substantially A-shaped in end elevation a base having a solid bottom and provided with upper projecting flanges, spaced strips having their lower ends secured to the flanges projecting upwardly and inclined, spring clamps carried by certain of the said strips, an adjustable spring clamp mounted on certain of said strips, transverse strips secured to certain of the first mentioned strips and having projecting ends, a guide rod secured to the projecting ends, and an adjustable marking device carried by said guide rod.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
