DISPLAY-CARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1918..
Application filed March'l i, 1918. Serial No. 222,297.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnALnnn'r JOSEPI-ISON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lDisplay-Cards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved dis play card, and is particularly adapted for use as a card which in a sense forms the false bottom of a container, and to which card objects to be displayed are attached.
The invention has especial reference to the means by which such objects are releasably retained by the card. 1 am familiar with numerous devices at present in use, but so far as I am aware none of these has proven entirely satisfactory. lln most cases the retaining member is either pasted 01' sewed to the base card, and not only is the cost of production of such cards considerable but the life of the cards is relatively short and they are generally unsatisfactory in use.
The principal purpose of my invention is to overcome the defects of existing display cards of this character and to provide a simply constructed card which may be cheaply produced and in which the retaining member proper may be replaced as often as desired, and when in position will be firmly anchored to retain the objects in display position.
The invention may be embodied in a great variety of forms, and for the purpose of illustrating a concrete form of my invention 1 have shown a display card in the accompanying drawing, in whichlFigure 1 is a top plan View with one of the display objects omitted; and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
The form of the card itself is immaterial, and in the drawing the numeral 10 denotes a rectangular base card to which the objects 11 are to be releasably secured. The objects shown in the drawing are buoyant ani mals which may float on a toy pond.
It is desired that these animals shall be fairly firmly secured to the base 10 so that the base with the superposed animals may be handled and shipped as a whole, and withal these animals must be easily removable from the base card and as easily replaceable thereon in proper position. To this end I provide the base card with slots 12 so as to form suitably shaped tongues or lugs 13 constituting what may be termed anchors? under which elastic retaining elements 1 1 are passed. The particular configuration of d the tongues 13 is immaterial provided these tongues are so shaped that oppositely disposed tongues will securely retain one of the members 11 in position 011 the card. In the drawing each tongue 13 is formed somewhat like a wing, comprising the intermediate portion A, and the side wings B which are rearwardly curved and merge in the line C by which the wing remains attached to the web of the base card 10.
The elastic element 14- desirably consists of an integral endless rubber-band. For each object 11 to be attached to the base card a pair of such lugs 13 is provided and a single rubber band 1 1 is anchored under the side wings B of the lug 13, while the main portion of the rubber band consisting of the oppositely disposed strands rests on top of the card 10. The band may be of such length that the visible strands in Fig. 1 are under very slight tension in the position of rest. It will be obvious that to secure one of the objects 11 to the card 10 it is merely necessary to raise the strands of the band 1 1 and to slip the object 11 under the strands so that the latter are spaced apart and engage the body of the object 11 at difl'erent places. The elastic band 141 being anchored in what may be termed the corners or edges between the side wings B is held firmly in position and will not be pulled out nor will it tend to pull. out the lugs 13 when one of the objects 11 is placed under the band 14.
The manner of using the device has been sufficiently indicated in the foregoing description so that the operation of the device is clear.
What I claim is 1. A display device of the character specifled, comprising a base card having slotted portions therein, arranged in pairs, the members of each pair being opposite each other, and a separate single elastic band engaging each pair of such slotted portions and extending between the members thereof to receive objects to be displayed on said card.
2. A display device of the character specitied, comprising a base card having slots cut therein to form oppositely disposed pairs of wings and a separate single elastic member for each pair of Wings having portion Within the slots and under the wings, and additional portions" extending over the face of the card substantially at right angles to the slots in position to receive objects andreleasably retain, the same on the card.
3; A display de Vi ce"c0inprising a card having lugs cut from the x'veb of such card, said lugs beingarranged in pairs, the memberstf aehpair being opposite each other, each 111g comprising amint'ernie'd'iate portimemarearwardly curred side portions,
and a separate single elastic band for each pair of lugs having opposite sections thereof retain'e'd'hythe side portion of the lug and strands of the band extending across the face of the card in position to releasably retain the objects on the card.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in' presence of two witnesses.
