Be'it known that l, FRITZ Poses, a sub ject of the Emperor of Germany, resident of Cambridge, county of Middlesex, and State of Mass, have invented certain-new and useful Improvements in Soap-Shavers, of which thetollowing is a specification.

ilhisinvention relatesto improvements in devices for shearing or shaving slices from the end of a bar of ordinary hard soap, and has as its special object the provision of means whereby the soap bar may be conveniently handled and shaved in any desired quantity in an easy and expeditious manner without contact of the hands with the soap. A further object is ito provide a soap shaver comprised of few and simple parts which. may be cheaply manufactured and which is capableof being used by any inexperienced person.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10, designates a can having united to it a rigid bottom 11, in which is formed a plurality of slots 12, above which extends the integrally formed knives or cutters 14:, the same having sharp longitudinal edges adapted to make contact with the bar of soap as it is pressed and rotated against them, all of the several edges extending so as to be operative when the bar is rotated in one direction.

Between opposed pairs of the knives 14, are other central knives 15 and 16 respectively, having openings therebelow so that the center of the end of the bar is provided for.

adapted to contact within the interior of the wall of the can 10, and rotate therein, the tube flanges 86 and 37 resting on the space ring or washer 38 at the bottom, of the can.

In operation, the screw handle, cover plate and attached parts being removed, an ordinary bar of soap is inserted within the tube 5, and the same placed in position within the can 10, the screw 28, is operated by the handle 29, so as to bring the plate 32, closely adjacent to the cover 24, which is placed over the top of the can, the lock plate 23, being partially rotated so as to cause the slots 22, to engage in the corresponding recesses 20, formed in the bars 18, thereby locking the cover and its parts in engagement with the can.

Rotating the handle 29, obviously causes the screw 28 to move downward and at the same time in addition to applying pressure by means of the plate 32 to the soap, causes the tube 35, containing the soap to revolve, bringing the lower end of the bar into operative relation with the cutters 14c, 15 and 16, so that a continued operation shaves or shreds thelower end of the soap bar, the clippings dropping through the openings in an obvious manner.

Thus any portion of the soap bar may be shaved by manipulating the handle 29, hold- Iclaim as new. and desire to secure by Letters 'Patent,-'is.

1. In a soap shaver, thecombination with a cylindrical can, a cover, and means for engaging said cover with said can, of a plurality of cutters at the bottom of said can, said cutters covering openings extending therethrough, a tube fitted to the bar of soap to be shaved, said tube being rotatable within said can, means for rotating said tube, and means for pressing the soap against said cutters.

2. In a soap shaver, the combination with a cylindrical can and a cover therefor, of a plate secured to said cover, means on said can whereby said plate may be readily clamped in engagement, cutters covering open slots in the bottom of said can, means for guiding a bar of soap so as to rotate axially centrally of said can, means for raising said guidingmeans above said bottom, a rectangular plunger operating in said guiding means, means for rotating said plunger, and means forforcing said plunger downward.

I In a soap shaver, the combination with a hollow cylindrical can and a cover there for, means for clamping said cover in encopies of this patent may be obtained for gagement with said can, a bottom fixed to the lower end of said can, a plurality of cutters disposed on said bottom and covering longitudinal slots thereunder, a rectangular casing rotatably engaged in said can, said casing being suited to receive a bar ofsoap, a spaced ring whereby said casing is held in raised relation to said bottom, a threaded hub formed with said cover, a screw suited to said hub, means for operating said screw, and a plunger plate at the lower end of said screw adapted to operate in said casing whereby said casing is rotated and the soap bar simultaneously pressed downward against said cutters.

In a soap shaver, the combination with a cylindrical can, a head removably engaged therewith, means for clamping said head in engagement, and a bottom fixed with said can, of a plurality of slots formed through said bottom, the material of said slots being upturned and forming cutters, a rotatable casing adapted to contain a bar of soap mounted axially in said can, a screw engageable with said head, a plunger plate at the lower end of said screw operable within said casing, and means for operating said screw whereby said plunger plate is pressed down and said casing rotated.
