UNITED STATES \VILLIAM J. BODA, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN TABLE-SLIDES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,302, dated May 28, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM J. BODA, of Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Table Slides; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which-- Figure 1 is a plan view of the upper side of my slide when closed; Fig. 2 is a like view of the same when extended; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of my device, as shown in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the same on lines 00 :v of Figs. 1, 2, and 3.
. Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
My invention has for its object the production of a supporting slide or connection for the frame of extension tables, which shall be simple in construction, cheap, and durable; and to this end it consists in the peculiar construction of the contiguous or hearing faces of the sliding bars, by means of which the same are held in lateral contact while free to move longitudinally, substantially as is hereinafter specified.
In the annexed drawing, A, A, and A represent three wooden bars, arranged in parallel lines, theinner or contiguous sides of which are each provided with four faces, a and a, which have the same angle of inclination from a vertical line, (preferably thirty degrees,) but are arranged in pairs, having, relatively, opposite angles, while the faces of each pair have different planes, and are connected by a third face,a, placed at a right angle to the lines, transversely, of the same. The result of this construction is the production upon one bar of a tongue, B, having the peculiar dovetail angular form shown, while within the contiguous face of the adjacent bar is formed a groove, B, which corresponds to and receives said tongue, and firmly unites said parts, laterally, while permitting them to move freely in a longitudinal direction.
The peculiar construction of the bearing. A
sides of the bars is effected by means of an ordinary tenoning-machine, provided with two cutter-heads, which have relative angles that correspond to the opposite faces, or one-half of said faces may be formed at one operation, and the bar then reversed so as to. complete the opposite side, but in either case the labor and expense are but trifling, while the strength and durability of the joint are fully equal to those composed wholly or in part of metal.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, what I claim as new The slide-bars A, A, and A, having their bearing-faces constructed and connected together, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this a7tl1 day of July, 1871.
' WILLIAM J. BODA.
