IMPROVEMENT IN BEDSTEAD-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,228, dated May 28, `1872.
SPECIFICATION.
Specification describing certain Improvements in 'Bedstead-Fastenings, invented by JOHN W. ELSTUN, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana.
My invention relates to that class of bedstead-fastenings in which castings inserted in the post and ends of the rails areemployed to secure them together', and it consists in the form and manner of securing the casting that is inserted in the post, whereby said casting may be made light and cheap, and may be easily and securely fastened in the post.
. Figure lis a front or face view of the casting embodying my invention, shown as inserted in the bed-post. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same, taken on the line w w, Fig. l.
A is the bed-post and B my improved casting in which to insert the ends of the casting attached to the ends of the rails inserted therein. The openings E e, inthe face of the casting B, and also its interior surface, arranged to receive the enlarged ends of the cast tenonirons D, shown in dotted lines, are similar to those in common use.
My improvement consists in forming the beveled recesses in the sides of the casting'B so that it may be secured in the mortise cut in the post A by means of wedge-shaped pieces of wood, C, which are to be prepared of proper shape, dipped in hot glue, and driven into the recess. After the glue is sufficiently hardcned, the Wedges C may be dressed down to the face of the post.
The advantages possessed by the casting thus formed are, that it is light, and conse- .quently cheap, and the implement required to cut the mortise in the post to receive the casting is of the simplest kind, and is also in common use, While the mode of securing the casting, by means of the Wooden wedges C, renders it of easy and cheap application, and very permanent.
