CHICKEN-HOUSE AND BROODER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1918.
Application filed September 5, 1917. Serial No. 189,841.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. CoNNoR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Byers, in the county of Pratt and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chicken-Houses and Brooders; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in chicken houses and comprises a simple and efiicient device of this nature, having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically described in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a-side elevation of the chicken house with .one side removed to better illustrate the interior construction.
Fig. 2 is a View of the reverse side of the house, the rear wall being removed.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view on the line l4: of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of a portion of a roost, and
Fig. 6 is a detail perspective View of a portion of a member for supporting a nest.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a house, which may be of any size or shape and made of any suitable material, preferably galvanized steel, and B designates an incubator room having a door C in one end of the building and another door, designated by letter C in the side within the building. The top of the brooding chamber has two inclined roof portions, designated by letters D and D, upon which are cleats and affording means whereby fowl may walk up the same to get to the roosts, designated by letter F, which are held in notches in strips within the house. In Fig. 3 of the drawings the line D designates the ridge between the two -inclined surfaces one upon either side thereof. A flue Gr leads from the roof to the incubator chamber and through the top of the building, and a second flue, designated by letter K, is formed in the roof to ventilate the chamber above the incubating room.
Strips, designated by letter I and rollers I, are mounted within the housing and are adapted to support tiers of nests, designated respectively by letters J, K and L. Said nests have openings N therein whereby access may be readily had to the same, the front walls of the upper tiers of nests being of a single piece of material, while the nests on said strips and rollers below are separate and may be made in any suitable manner, either with wire netting for bottoms or solid. The strips I, designated by letter R, have each a pipe S positioned in a recess along the marginal edge thereof, which pipes are adapted to contain a disinfectant.
In order to give access to the roof of the brooding chamber, a ladder T is provided which is fastened to the vertical side of the incubator chamber or room.
By the provision of a chicken house made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that a simple and efficient apparatus is afforded whereby the various parts may be easily and quickly cleansed and disinfected.
What I claim to be new is:
A brooder having an inclined roof portion-to a nest chamber and provided with a series of horizontally disposed recessed strips spaced apart and provided with recessed pipes mounted in said recesses and having perforations in registration with the opening leading into the recesses and in which pipes a disinfectant is adapted to be contained, rollers opposite said strips, and nests having mesh-work bottoms supported upon said strips and rollers.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN GEORGE CONNOR.
A. E. HOLDER, C. A. GROOM.
