UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE A. BROWN, OF LONG PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA.
I-IENS NEST.
To all whom it may concern:
l Be it known that I, GEORGE A. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Long Prairie, in the county of Todd and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hens Nests; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hens nests and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature having multiple compartments at different elevations in which are blind cells, and which compartments are accessible to one another.
The invention comprises other details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the nest.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation showing the hinged back open.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view centrally and longitudinally through the nest.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates the casing of the nest which may be of any shape or size, preferably of the proportion shown in the drawings, and provided with a hinged back A, having an inclined or sloping roof B and vertical partitions O spaced apart at intervals Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. '1, 1919.
vApplication filed April 17, 1919. Serial No. 290,660.
and dividing the same into various compartments. The front wall of the casing has openings D through which hens enter and make exit from the nest and which are arranged at different elevations.
Transverse partitions E are fastened between the vertical partitions and the end walls of the casing forming a series of blind nest compartments, each of which is provided with a perch H projecting from the front wall and affording means whereby a hen may pass through an opening K formed in the vertical partition, should it desire to do so, from one partition to the other, the various compartments being ar ranged in stepped relation, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
In operation the hen is supposed to enter the lower compartment through the openings in the wall and should it desire to go into the compartment above, it may readily do so through the medium of the perch in the compartment which is adjacent to the opening in the vertical partition, and by the arrangement of the openings and perches, it will be noted that the hen may go from one (elevation to another and make exit from the compartment through any one of the openings in the front wall.
What I claim to be new is:
A hens nest, comprising a casing having a series of vertical partitions, with oppositely disposed openings therein, and openings in one wall of the casing, horizontal partitions arranged in staggered relation with one another between said vertical walls and etween the apertures therein, and perches projecting from the apertured wall of the casing slight distances below the apertures in said wall and midway between the vertical partitions.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE A. BROWVN.
Witnesses:
A. J. RHODA, OHAs. KOONZE.
