Fig. lSjis a .view in perspective of the preferred form of fastener or clasp.
Referring more especiallyto the drawf ings, l Adesignates a garter, which may be either a mans garter, or a garter extending from the edge of a pair of ladies corsets, and one end of this garter may be turned to form a loop 3, held byla clasp 2, as shown in Fig. kl, or the lower end of a garter may be attached permanently to the base clamping jaw of the clamp or fastener, as shown in Fig. 8. In Fig. 1, the baseclamping j aw or plate 5,has atransverse slot 4 at its upper end, to vreceive the loop 3 of the garter, whereby thegarter, by virtue of the clasp 2, may be adjusted. However, in Fig. 8, a piece of fabric 2a is inserted through the slot4 and folded,as shown in dotted lines c in Fig. 8, and is Vstitched securely `between vadjacent `pieces Va and Z) of the garter. The base clamping jaw 5 adjacent the slot 4 is provided with a second slot 4?. A piece of@ an elastic vfabricor the like4b is ypassed through the slot 4, and stitched at 4c and 4d, the stitches 4dl passingthrough the slot 4a. This piece of elastic vfabric is provided for the purpose of covering the inner face of thebase clamping jaw, to prevent the metal from contacting with the bare leg of the wearer. In Fig. 8, the elastic fabric, 4b is stitched in any suitable manner at its upper end between the two pieces a and b of the garter l. The base clamping jaw, 5 near the slot 4 is provided with a pair of lateral ears 6, which are provided with apertures. The auxiliary plate or lever 9 is provided with side flanges 8, of the Vshape shown in. the drawing, particularly in Fig. 6. .The .corresponding vends of the flanges 8 are provided with Ylaterally extending pivot lugs 10,'which engage the apertures ltending lugs 12. In other words, the
of the ears 6 of the base Clamping jaw, thereby pivotally mounting the lever 9. Projecting from one crotch end of the opening 12a of the lever 9, and extending laterally is a projection 11 having laterally exjection 11 `is T shaped and extends through the opening 13 f the holding and releasing plate or jaw 14. It is k'to be lalso notedY that the opening 13 is T-shaped, so that when connecting the auxiliary plate or lever 9 to the holding and releasing clamping jaw, the transverse elongated portion of the 'prorj'e'ction 11 will pass through the transverse elongatedv part 15 of the opening 13, so that fthe'co'n'tracted part of saidprojection'will engage the restricted lportion of the openling 13,y as shown clearly in Figs. 3, l land 5. One end of the'holding and releasing clamping jaw has a laterally extendingflange l16, rom` which a tongue y17 projects, which tongue is angular, and 'yieldable rIhe lever 9 lat its pivoted end is'p'rovided with-a flange 10a, which is yieldable, particularly adjacent the VVopening '12, and the yieldable or spring action in said. tongue 17 and said 'liange 10a', particularly'saidl tongue (Which cooperates withV the flange) 'will hold the l'ever'down upon the holding and releasing vclamping jaw, when it is closed. The tongue 1'( terminates in a flange V18, which overlies the Youter edge of the flange 10a, to morel securely holdV the Vlever closed'. The lower end portion of the base clamping'jaw terminates Ain a flange 19, andthe lower end ofthev elastic Apiece 4J extends over this liange and has itsextremity secured to the Vend of the liange 19, by bending the extreme lend edge portionk 20 of the flange 19 over and clenching the same on the. extremity of Vthe elastic piece, as shown in the drawings.
B y so securing the Velastic piece to the flange 19, a lsuitable shield Aor cover is aliorded, thereby preventing excessive wear on the hose'or other garment, which is clamped between the flange 19 and the free end'of the releasing and holding clamping jaw. The free extremity of the holding and releasing jaw terminates in a flange 21which is provided with an angular portion 22, the part 23 ol." which fitting between the base clamping jaw and the clenched portion of the elastic'piece.- By so constructing the free extremity of the holding and releasing clamping jaw, means is provided, between the portions 21, 22 and 23 and the flange 19 and the clenched portionof the elastic piece by which the hose or other garment may be clamped. Further, by the'provision of the'parts 21, 22Y and 23, means is provided which will prevent extreme wear on the hose or other garment. The holding and releasing, jaw is 'provided Vwith a shoulder 24: on each side, as shown in Figs. 1 to 7 inclusive. These shoulders rare engaged bythe flange proend portions 25 of the plate lever 9; In Fig. 8, however, there is only one shoulder 24; extending transversely of the holding and releasing jaw, and which shoulder is engaged by the single ange 26 of the plate lever 9. By the provision of the shoulder 211,which extends outwardly farther f-than the ianges 25V or flange 26, prevents the flanged end 26 from catching or engaging some foreign object and pull the lever 9 outwardly, which will release the garment; When the parts of the clamp or fastener, are disposed as shown in Fig. 3, a garmentbr the like may be V'clamped' between the flange 19 and the- parts 21, 22 andes. when the auxiliary plate lever V9 vis'moved to the position. shown infl Fig. 5, the holdingV and rei leaslng jaw is held supported-'at right angles vto :the auxiliary-plate lever, by virtue''f flugs 12an'd said liangel'. i
The invention having been set forth,'what lwardly turned liangeof the first jaw, and provided at its'other end lwitha T'shaped slot in which said T-shaped lug .engages for loosely connecting said holding and'4 releasingjaw to said lever, whereby asjthe lever is closed the angle-end lange-of'said holding and releasing jaw is forced in Aen'- lgagenient with and underwthe outwardly extending flangeof the first jaw, rsaid holding land 'releasing jaw havinga yieldalble tongue adjacentv said T-shaped opening, said tongue'being` bent U-shaped in crosssectidn and extending through the opening of said lever andprovided with a terminal flange adapted to engage the edge of the flange of the lever whereby the lever is held against saidV holding and releasing jaw when closed.
