JEWELRY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1918.
Application filed January 26, 1916. Serial No. 74,335.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HOBART HALSTEAD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montclair, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jewelry, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in safety guards for cuff buttons, particularly of the link button type, land more particularly has reference to a device adapted to be attached to the link of a link button by means of a chain, string or other suitable flexible connection and which is adapted to be secured in the sleeve of the shirt so that in case the link button comes out it will be suspended thereby instead of being lost as usual.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 illustrates in front elevation the end of a sleeve and cuff with a link button in position and a device embodying my invenf tion attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view without the cuii'.
8 is the cu of the shirt sleeve, and 9 the sleeve thereof. 10 is a usual form of link button in position in the cui and 11 a suitable ring or link engaging the link or stem of the link button and secured at the end of a chain or other suitable connection such as 12, the other end of which is attached to my device indicated by the reference character 13.
This device preferably comprises a member such as 19, which may be provided with va bar such as 20, said member being suitably threaded to receive a cap such as 19', which may be attached to the chain 12 so that by engaging said member within the buttonhole 18, the cuff-button may be suitably secured against loss. A
Of course it will be understood that various modifications may bemade without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. An article of the class described comprising a link button for a cuff, a member adapted to engage the button hole of the sleeve adjacent said cuff and a chain connecting said last stated member and said link.
2. An article of the class described comprising a link button for a cuff, a member adapted to engage the button hole of the sleeve adjacent said cuff and a chain connecting said last stated member and said link, said member comprising two parts adapted to be screwed together, one of said parts adapted to extend over the outside of said button hole and the other of said parts adapted to be screwed to the back of the same.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HOBART HALSTEAD.
