FOLDABLE MATTRESS.
To all whom'z't may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARA P. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Foldable Mattresses, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to make a foldable mattress or cushion especially for camping outfits for automobiles and the like, and which may be used for general purposes, and my invention consists in the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a perspective of a mattress or cushion embodying the principles of my invention and made up flat ready for use.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective showing the details of construction.
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the mattress folded into a bundle.
The sections 1, 2 and 3 are built upon a continuous bottom sheet a and may be of any desired size or shape. The meeting walls 5 and 6 are secured to the bottom sheet 4 by lines of stitching 7 and 8 so as to form a fabric hinge 9 between the two sections and so that one section will fold fiat upon the other and so that when unfolded they will make a continuous flat plane.
A flap or cover 10 is secured to the upper outer corner edge 11 and said flap is adapted to reach over the section 3, over the section 2, and over the section 1 and down along the outer edge 12 of the section 1, there being snap fastener members 13 secured to the end face 12 and mating snap fastener members 14 secured to the inner face of the flap 10 so that when the flap 10 is drawn tightly Specification of Letters Patent,
Application filed December 4, 1917. Serial No. 205,444.

over the sections 1, 2 and 3 and the end fasteners snapped together, a continuous cover is formed, thereby producing a practically continuous fiat mattress or cushion. Snap fastener members 13 are also secured to the end wall 5 of the section 2 so that when the sections are stacked, as in Fig. 3, the flap 10 will reach backwardly around the section 1 and the fastener members 1i upon the flap engage the members 13, so as to hold the bundle in shape.
' Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the following claim.
I claim:
A mattress or the like constructed of three sections built upon a continuous bottom sheet, said bottom sheet forming hinges to connect the sections together; a flap connected to the outer side of one of the outer sections and extending over all the sections to tht outer side of the opposite outer section; snap fasteners for securing the free edge of the flap to the outer edge of said opposite outer section, so that the flap forms a continuous top for the unfolded sections; a fastener member secured to an intermediate section so that when the mattress has been rolled into a bundle, the flap may extend around the opposite outer section from that to which it is attached and be attached to said intermediate section so as to hold the mattress in a bundle.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
CLARA P. WILSON.
