E. KYEs.
Improvement in Fences.
Patented May 21,1872.
legi. I
UNITED STATES EDGECOMB KYES, OF NUNDA, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT lN FENCES-4 Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,071, dated May 21, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGECOMB KYES, of Nunda, in the Vcounty of Livingston and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Farm Fences; and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a farm fence,77 as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and-operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which-` i Figure l represents a side elevation, and Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are detached views of the same.
A A represent the panels of my fence, alternating, each panel being made separate in the usual form of horizontal boards, with an upright bar or batten in the center and at each end. The panels A A have hooks a a in the battens at each end of the panel for supporting the panels A A', and a wire, b, around the top of the battens where the panels come together, holds them firmly in place. The panels A A are secured in an upright position by the following means: Two stakes, B B, are driven into the ground at each end of the panel, one on each side, their upper ends crossing each other under the top board immediately inside of the end hatten. From each stake B a brace, C, extends to the top of the bottom board, to hold the bottom of the fence firm -and on each stake under the top board is a block, d, to hold the top of the fence firm. The panels A can be taken off by raising the wires b from the top of the batt-ens, and lifting the said panels olf from the hooks c a on the panels A, thus making with this construction of fence a pass-way at every other panel, and needing no gates.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A panel fence, combined with stakes B B, braces C C, blocks d cl, wires b I), and hooks a a, all arranged as set forth, for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
