UNITED STATES PATENT EEIGE.
GEORGE W. HATCH, OF PARKMAN, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN FENCEPOSTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,529, dated September 7, 1875 v application filed July 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. HATCH, of Parkman, in the county of Geauga and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fence-Posts; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specitcation.
The nature of my invention consists inthe construction ot' a fence-post, as Will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing represents a perspective View of my fence-post.
A A represent the horizontal boards of an ordinary board fence. rlhe ends ofthese boards are fastened between two upright boards, B B, connected at their upper ends by a cappiece, O, and they are provided at their lower ends with L-shaped stays D D,'permanently fastened thereto. The horizontal part of each stay D is formed with a suitable hole for the passage of a brace, G,vthe upper end of which is fastened to the upright board B, and the lower end driven into the ground a sufficient distance to make the post solidY and permanent. The braces G are made of round rods, and entirely support the Wooden fence-posts B B, so that they1 Will not touch the ground, and hence are preserved from rotting.
By adjusting the stays D D up or down the post may be put up on inclined ground in a vertical position just as well as on level ground.
Having thus fully described my invention,
lwhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by June, 1875.
