BARREL-STAND. I
I To all whom it may concern p which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends the provision of a barrel stand designed to support a barrel in a manner so that the same can be conveniently tilted and maintained in any desired position, to drain the contents therefrom.
In carrying outmy invention use is preferably made of strap iron so shaped as to provide an extremely simple, strong and durable support for the purpose intended, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of the specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts of the several views, and wherein:
A perspective view of the stand is shown.
A stand constructed in accordance with my invention embodies a pair of spaced vertically disposed members, which are substantially of triangular formation as shown. Each member is identical in construction and is preferably formed from a suitable length of strap iron or like, the intermediate portion 10 constituting the base, and may be of any desired length to provide a proper bearingsurface. The base end of each member terminates to provide upwardly extending straight portions 11 which project but a slight distance above the base 10. The straight portions 11 are twisted as at 12 for the purpose of disposing the converging portions 13 edgewise with respect to the base, thus permitting the extremities of the convergin ortions to be overlapped as shown. In ad ition to so disposing the converging portions, the twist 12 in the material tends to strengthen the members as a unit. The members are connected together by means of a substantially arch shaped plate 14 which is bifurcated at each end, the separated portions 15 defined by the bifurcations being oppositely curved and riveted or otherwise suitably secured to the base 10 of said members atv points adjacent the upturned portions 11 thereof. A substantially U-shaped element 16 is positioned between the said members, and is riveted or otherwise suit- Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 25, 1918, Application fi1ed February 2, 1918. Serial No. 215,130. I
ably secured to the plate 1 1 centrally thereof. The parallel limbs 17 of this element are provided with openings disposed in alinement with similar openings formed in the overlapped extremity of the convergingly disposed portions 13 of said members. The parallel portions 17 are connected with said converging portions of said members through the instrumentality of the trunnions 18 which project from the barrel supporting annulus 19 passing through the alined openings above mentioned. The trunnions are threaded at their outer ends to accommodate suitable nuts 21 whereby the parts are maintained properly associated, or by means of which the barrel supporting annulus may be held fixed relative to the stand in any given position.
The element 16 is utilized to add strength and durability to the stretcher as an entirety, and is admirably designed and most conveniently disposed for this purpose. The annulus 19 is split as shown, the extremity thereof being offset and disposed in confronting relation as at 22. A headed bolt 23 is passed through the offset extremity and has associated therewith a nut 24. The component parts are associated in a manner to permit the annulus 19 to be spread or enlarged an appreciable degree to facilitate the positioning of a barrel therein or the removal of a barrel therefrom. Subsequent to the positioning of the barrel within the annulus the nut 24 is tightened upon the bolt 23, thus contracting the annulus about the barrel to support the latter in spaced relation to the closed end of the U-shaped element 16. Manifestly, the barrel so supported can be readily and easily tilted to any desired position, as well as maintained in any given position by merely tightening the nuts 21.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that what is herein shown and described is merely illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention, to which I do not limit myself, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What I claim is A barrel stand comprising a pair of spaced side members, each member being formed from a length of flat material and having a i V 10 there'toihanysuitahle manner, an adjustable triangular configuration, a transversely-dis U-shaped elemerits, truhnions projecting from i i posed plate connecting; saidmembers.and;Said.a n lu a ;paS$9d1t O g the limbs secured to the base thereof, the diverging V of said elements and the. overlapped ex portions of said members being twisted at--'= --tre'1nities of the side membersfWhereby'said" 5 an appropriate POIIIt'iII their length to-lie -annulus is supported for rotation and-means" yed'gewl'sein' a yeixtical plar e withtheipsex-y associated With said trunnions for holding I j tremitis overlapped, substantially shaped element arranged'with 'it'selosed' end 'iiulus' inany" gi veii position. reposing upon thesaid plate and secured In testimony whereof Iuafiix niy signature.
