Walzer J Kennedy U T A ES PAT N I WALTER J. KENNEDY, or New YORK, a. Y.
arr
ravvnnor Ann Lamina-PAPER ran; k I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER J. KENNEDY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New. York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelop and Letter-Paper Pads, of which the.
following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
This invention relates to stationery material and particularly to envelop and letter paper pads, and the object thereof is to provide an article of this class comblning number of letter paper sheets and envelop sheets connected at one end in the manner of an ordinary pad, and from which a letter sheet and an envelop sheet may be detached for use whenever necessary and in the use of which the letter is written on the letter paper sheet which is then folded and placed on the envelop sheet, afterwhich the envelop sheet is folded and sealed so as to inclose the folded letter sheet and thus produce a complete folded and sealed letter which may be mailed in the usual manner.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved ad;
p Fig. 2 a side view thereof;
Fig. 3 a plan view of one of the letter sheets detached from the pad;
Fig. 4: a similar view of one of the envelop sheets detached from the pad;
Fig. 5a view showing the method of folding the letter sheet and placing it on the envelop sheet preparatory to folding and sealing the letter; and,
Fig. 6 a back view of the envelop sealed with the letter therein.
In the practice of my invention, as shown in'the drawing, I provide a pad a comprising, in the form of construction shown, a top portion 5 composed of a plurality of letter sheets 5 one of which is shown 1n Fig. 3, and a bottom or back portion 0 composed of a plurality of envelop sheets 0 one of which is shown in Fig. at, and the sheets 6 and 0 are secured together at one endas shown at (Z in the manner of an ordinary blank paper pad and in securing the ends of 'Spec'ification of Letters Patent. Patented J 1111618, 1918. Application filed se tenwer 10,1917. Serial No. 190,432.-'
the sheets 5 and 0 together at d a strip of fabric material may be employed inthe usua l'manner. I In the useiof this. padfor writing a letter, the letter is written on the top letter sheet 6? which is detached from the pad in,
the usual manner either before or after writing the letter, and the bottom or back envelop sheet '0 is then detached, and the a folding side edge portion a, another folding side edge and sealing flap portion 0 and two end sealing flaps 0", and the edge portion of the part c is gummed as shown at 0 and the parts 0 are also gummed as shown at 0 After the letter is written and folded and placed on the envelop sheet as shown in Fig. 5, the part c is folded over the letter, after which the parts 0 are folded over and sealed to the part 0*, after which the sealing flap portion 0 is folded and sealed to the parts 0 and 0 as clearly shown in Fig. 6, and this completes the writing, folding and sealing of the letter which may be mailed in the usual manner.
The number of letter sheets 6 or letter sheet blanks, may be the same as the number of the envelop sheets 0 or the number of the letter sheet blanks may be greater than the number of the envelop sheet blanks, and my invention is not limited in any way to the number of letter sheet blanks, or envelop sheet blanks. In practice the transverse dimensions of the letter sheets or letter sheet blanks are made smaller than the corresponding dimensions of the envelop sheets or blanks, as clearly indicated in Figs. 1 and 5, in order to provide clearance, and to avoid for travelers, tourists, soldiers and others,
in that correspondence material may be carried in compact form and at a great saving of space, and at much less inconvenience than is possible where such material is made up in the usual manner, or in the form of separate letter sheets and envelops already formed.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An envelop and letter sheet pad, comprising a plurahty of letter sheets and a plurality of envelop sheets, the envelop sheets being adapted to be folded transversely to form a transverse central body portion having at its opposite side edges main folding flaps, one of which is a sealing flap, said central body portion being also provided at its transverse ends with supplemental sealing flaps and the transverse dimensions of the letter sheets being less than the corresponding dimensions of the envelop sheets minus said supplemental sealing flaps.
2. An envelop and letter sheet pad, comprising a plurality of letter sheets and aplurality of envelop sheets, said sheets being detachably connected at one end and the envelop sheets being adapted to be folded transversely to form a transverse central body portion having at its opposite side edges main folding flaps one of which is a sealing flap, said central body portion being also provided at its transverse ends with supplemental sealing flaps and the transverse dimensions of the letter sheets being less than the corresponding dimensions of the envelop sheets minus said supplemental sealing flaps.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 5th day of September 1917.
